This summer, immerse the whole family in the world of Viking Britain!
Lynn Museum will be running a mix of drop-in family events and special children’s workshops throughout the summer holidays exploring different aspects of Viking history.
On Thursday 30th July design your own brooch patterns, try your hand at traditional weaving, and master the art of ancient runes at our Viking Crafts Family Event. Drop in anytime between 10am-1pm or 2-4pm and see what you can create.
On Thursday 6th August children will be able to get hands-on with Viking jewellery. Tutor Brian London will be sharing his knowledge of traditional craft skills and helping children to create their own jewellery to take home. This 90-minute session will run twice, once at 10.30am and again at 1pm.
Archaeology is in the spotlight on Thursday 13st August. Drop in anytime between 10am-1pm or 2-4pm to explore a recreated Viking grave and learn what it takes to be an archaeologist. Investigate grave goods, learn to measure broken pottery, and discover what our fallen Viking ate for his final meal.
Finally, on Thursday 20th August, children can learn all about Viking raids, weapons, and battle strategy in our brand-new Viking Warrior School workshops. This 90-minute session will run twice, at 10.30am and 1pm.
Tickets for drop-in events cost £3 for adults and £2 for children (ages 4-18). For workshops, tickets cost £5 per child, with accompanying adults attending free. Workshops are recommended for children ages 6-12. Drop-in family events are open to all ages.
Tickets for all events can be booked in advance by visiting museums.norfolk.gov.uk/events, or by contacting the museum. Pre-booking is recommended, especially for workshops as spaces will be limited. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
There will also be three different themed trails running throughout the school holidays allowing families the chance to explore the museum together and win a small prize. Trails are included with all admission and events tickets, and can be collected on arrival:
18th July-2nd August: Viking Shields Trail
4th-16th August: Silly Archaeologist Trail
18th August-2nd September: Pesky Pests Trail
