Last week in the Butterfly Room our book of the week was The Enromous Turnip. The children engaged in activities surrounding the book which incorporated different parts of our curriculum such as physical development using fine and gross motor skills, literacy, understanding the world and expressive arts and design. The children took part in colouring pictures, cutting, sticking, puzzles, dominoes, reading, planting seeds and making their own turnip soup ๐Ÿฒ

Our sign of the week was also based on our book which was 'turnip' and 'help'.

Our book this week is going to be 'Little Red riding Hood'.

Our sign of the week has been 'Thank you'.

The book of the week in the Butterfly room has been Goldilocks and the three bears. The children have been exploring different activities surrounding our story including colouring characters, cutting out the shapes, creating their own small world scenes, singing our Golidlocks song, pretending to make porridge for the three bears, making our own oat cookies and sorting themed objects from biggest to smallest. Next week our book of the week is The Enormous Turnip where we will be making our own soup, talking about different vegetables and how they grow!

In the Butterfly room we have been incorporating Makaton signs into our daily routine. Makaton is designed to support spoken language, it is used in a visual way to develop communication skills which helps stimulate sounds and words. The children this week have been learning to sign the days of the week. Below is a link to the BBC website for more information on what Makaton is and how to use it.

The children in the Butterfly Room have been busy splashing in muddy puddles this morning! โ˜”๏ธ๐ŸŒง

We spoke about the weather at carpet time ehikat completing our daily calender and decided that we would need to wear waterproofs and wellies to keep us dry, and coats to keep us warm! We also discussed other accessories such as hats, gloves, and scarves๐Ÿงค๐Ÿงฃ๐Ÿฅพ

The children extended thus by linking the water to the story 'We're going on a bear hunt,' and created their own bear hunt focused around the natural elements in our garden!๐Ÿป๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ‚

๐ŸŒŸ Little explorers at work in the Caterpillar Room๐Ÿ” ๐Ÿ›๐ŸŒŸ

Our curious Caterpillars have enjoyed dipping their toes into the sandpit and discovered a whole world of fun! They used different implements to pour carefully, and experimented with scooping and filling containers. ๐Ÿ–๏ธโœจ

So much learning happens through play as the children explore textures, and follow their natural curiosity.

What a joyful, sandy adventure full of giggles and discovery!๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿช๐Ÿชฃ
