I am writing to you to share the news that I will be leaving Wellington Primaries to take up the position of Executive Headteacher with Hamwic Trust in January 2024; my final day at Wellington Primaries will be 31st December 2023. It has been a complete privilege to serve all the pupils, staff, parents and carers at the Wellington Primary Schools as your Executive Headteacher for close to five years and I am extremely proud of the improvements we have made, and your child and your own ongoing support has been crucial.
Ascend Learning Trust will oversee the recruitment of a new Headteacher in each school and any interim arrangements that may well be put in place following the 31st December. Although I will be sad to leave, I am confident that Ascend Learning Trust will appoint excellent successors, who will continue on the journey with both schools.
Finally, I wanted to again thank you for your support and reiterate that our focus remains unchanged as we strive to further improve our school for the community we serve.
Kind regards,
Mrs C. Addis

Thank you to our visitors for giving up their time!
Some highlights from last week's Sports Day! π
Year 3 and 4 children have been typing up their final pieces for their non-chronological reports. The children have been planning a news report, pretending to be in a fantasy land and writing about what they have experienced. Some of the writing has been very creative and demonstrated some fabulous imaginations!

Year 5 and 6 children have been writing the prequel to the children's story, The Lost Happy Endings, by Carol Ann Duffy and Jane Ray.
Their creative writing needed to consider why the witch became the way she was - they had a lot of fun coming up with their ideas and sharing them with the class!
Year 5 & 6 have been learning about the fate of the Titanic! π’
The children have been taking the facts they have learned and writing about the events and people involved back in 1912.
Year 3 & 4 children have been creating their own lands in their creative writing lessons, basing their new land on the children's story, Weslandia ποΈ
The children have spent time discussing their ideas with their friends and then formalising their ideas in their creative writing. So far, the children have written about crops, clothes, language and exports.
In this lesson, the children were writing about a new sport and coming up with the rules of their new sport. One example was a fresh take on football - but instead of your feet, you have to use your hands... but the ball still needs to move along the floor ββ½οΈ
For our DT trip, five Year 5 children from Wellington Lions and four Year 6 children from Wellington Eagles Primary Academy were selected to attend a Dyson Engineering workshop at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy.
They met an engineer from Dyson and learnt about the history of the company and its products. They were given the challenge of designing a prototype for a product to solve a problem at home. The Eagles team designed a robot toy/nanny cam and the Lions team designed a pet washer/dryer. The children had to plan their design and build their prototype from cardboard, plastics and spare Dyson part. Finally, they had to present their prototype to the other team and explain their decision.
π The Lions team won overall first prize, beating the Year 6 and Year 7 teams, and the Eagles team received special recognition for their design and product.
This week, the Ascend Learning Trust's student leadership teams have come together to build their resilience, communication and teamwork skills.

Earlier this term, our Reception, Year 1, Year 4 and Year 5 children have had an online session with Paddy Donnelly, an author and illustrator of books such as 'Fox and Son Tailors' and 'The Vanishing Lake'. Paddy shared how he creates his fantastic illustrations and develops his ideas for a new book.
This inspired our Year 4 and 5 children to create their own exciting stories, using the illustrations they created with Paddy as a front cover. Our Reception and Year 1 children created their own amazing tails before writing about them, inspired by Paddy's book 'Fox and Son Tailors.'
It was a great experience for all!
Year 2 have been writing about bridges in their recent English lessons. The children have been using their new book, Rosie Revere Engineer, by Andrea Beaty as inspiration and have been trying to use verbs that end in 'ing'!
The children in The Den at Lions have been enjoying some energetic nursery rhymes!
Our Years 3 and 4 children have been studying the book Cinnamon, a mighty fable by Neil Gaiman π― π
Full of diary entries, informal letters, dialogue, adverts, limericks, and other poetry we have taken inspiration from the book and are writing our own mythical tales in the same style about helping a child.
