🍌 It’s not just about the banana bread… it’s about everything that happens along the way! 🍌

Today our little bakers have been busy mashing bananas, weighing and measuring ingredients, scooping, pouring, mixing and working together to make their own banana bread.

In Early Years, the finished product is only a tiny part of the experience. The real learning happens in the process. 💛

Through baking, children are developing mathematical skills as they measure and count, strengthening little hands ready for writing, following instructions, learning new vocabulary, taking turns, solving problems and building independence and confidence.

And yes… it gets messy! Flour on the table, sticky fingers and ingredients everywhere — but that is exactly what meaningful, hands-on learning can look like. 🥣✨

At YBR, we want children to do, explore, experiment and have a go for themselves. The banana bread at the end is simply the bonus! 🍞🍌

✨ A little reminder of just how beautiful our nursery is… ✨

We’re so proud of the warm, calm and homely environment we’ve created for our children. 🤎

Every space has been carefully thought about to feel welcoming, inviting and full of opportunities to explore, imagine and learn — from cosy reading areas and open-ended resources to role play, sensory experiences and spaces where children can simply feel at home.

For us, a nursery should never feel clinical or overly busy. It should feel like a home from home — somewhere children feel safe, secure, valued and excited to spend their day. 🌿

Sometimes it’s lovely to stop and appreciate just how special the environment has become. 🥰

Beautiful spaces, meaningful experiences and happy little people — that’s what Yellow Brick Road is all about. 💛

A new month, a fresh start and the beginning of one of our favourite cosy seasons. 🤎

As we welcome September, we’re looking forward to lots of lovely moments across our nursery family — autumn walks, cosy activities, baking, exploring nature, learning new things and making special memories together.

Thank you, as always, to all of our wonderful families for your continued support and for trusting us to be part of your little ones’ journeys. It really does mean so much to us. 🫶

S T A F F M E E T I N G 💛

This week we’ve held our first staff meeting and we looked into Our Curriculum and The EYFS and how we use these in link into each other.
They all went into different teams to look at areas of our curriculum and they all had to link how we want the children to learn from these areas, which areas the EYFS are linked and how we can extend their learning ⭐️

We next did our Safeguarding past the parcel which is a little bit of fun to add to our training and all staff answered all the questions and won a prize at the same time ✨

Our activities across all our rooms this week 💛

Babies have been busy exploring some interests of enjoying the role play kitchen and having little tea parties in our cosy area. They’ve enjoyed also doing lots of nursery rhymes using musical instruments 🥁

Toddler Room have been focusing on OH HELP, OH NO ITS THE GRUFFALO, creating different trays focusing on different parts of the book and enjoyed creating there own GRUFFALO biscuits using there own skills to following instructions✨

Preschool have enjoyed making different potions in the mud kitchen using natural materials. 🍁
One of our preschoolers when to the beach, so we followed there intent and set up a lovely tray to encourage there imagination and recall past events. 🌊

We’ve all had such a fun filled week! Hope you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend! Don’t forget to put all your fun filled things you’ve done at the weekend on Famly, we can’t wait to see them!💛

👋 Our Makaton Sign of the Month: HELLO! 👋

This month, we are excited to introduce our first Makaton Sign of the Month — HELLO! 💛

Makaton is a fantastic way of supporting children’s communication and language development in the early years. By using signs alongside spoken words, we give children an additional way to communicate while their speech and language skills are developing.

🌱 Why is Makaton important in the early years?

The early years are a crucial time for developing communication skills. Using Makaton can help children to:

✨ Understand what is being said to them
✨ Express their needs, feelings and ideas
✨ Build confidence when communicating
✨ Develop their understanding of language
✨ Reduce frustration when they cannot yet find the words
✨ Take part in everyday routines, songs, stories and conversations
✨ Develop positive social interactions and relationships

💬 A common question is: “Will using Makaton stop my child from talking?”

No! Makaton does not stop children from developing speech. In fact, using signs alongside spoken words can support and encourage spoken language. It gives children another way to communicate while they are learning to use words, helping them to feel understood and confident.

👋 Our first sign is HELLO!

“Hello” is a simple but important word we use every day to greet people, make connections and begin positive interactions. We encourage our families to practise the sign at home too — try signing and saying “hello” when greeting your child, family members or friends.

By using Makaton consistently at home and in our setting, we can work together to give children more opportunities to communicate, connect and be understood. ❤️
