Over the last couple of weeks in the Puffins we have been reading Goldilocks and The Three Bears. We asked the children to bring in their teddies from home.
We all gathered round the firepit; making sure we were remembering how to stay safe around the fire.
Katie who was leading the experience asked you all what we needed to start our fire and some of you shouted: "WAFFLE". This a grid of six sticks we use as the basis of our fire and is something children create alongside an adult at the start of a fire.
Katie then asked you all to start pulling clouds down from the sky as our next part of the fire! This references the fact that we use balls of cotton wool to help get the fire going. This part of the fire is usually combined with children stretching hands up to the clouds, imitating reaching for the clouds!
Katie asked you what shape we needed to finish our fire and you all shouted with excitement: "TRIANGLE!" At this stage we lean sticks against one another to create a triangular structure before continuing to light it.
Once our fire was ready we set it alight and then placed our big pot of porridge on to heat up. We let our porridge cool till it was 'just right', similar to baby bears.
We then all sat with our teddies and read Goldilocks with our porridge!
Well done Katie and well done the Puffins!
