Happy Home Daycare My name is Emma. I live in Normanton with my husband , two amazing children (Girls, aged 8 & 11) our dog Alfie and 2 Guinea pigs, Popcorn & Potato.

I have been a secondary school teacher for almost 20 years. Since having my own children I knew that I wanted to pursue an alternative career but have never been sure what that might be. Lockdown gave me an opportunity to work from home and therefor spend more time with my children. I know Lockdown was hard for many people for various reasons. But, we loved it! (We were incredibly lucky!)

ted our days. Mornings included various traditional academic subjects. English, Maths, History and Art etc. Afternoons were given over to crafts, drawing, painting and cooking/baking etc. When lockdown ended and we all set about returning to ‘normal’’ I knew I had discovered the perfect career and have been working towards becoming a child minder since. I strongly believe that every child is unique and should be treated accordingly. They should be nurtured and encouraged to find their strengths and be given help, support and guidance to develop any weaknesses they may have. I will communicate with you to discuss any issues that are of concern, working together we will formulate plans to best help each, individual child. I look forward to working with you and your amazing children!

This week, we said a very sad farewell to one of our little ones who has been with us right from the very beginning. 🥹❤️

To make her final week extra special, we enjoyed a lovely day out at Ponderosa Zoo.

We were also delighted to welcome back a previous mindee, who was also with us from being a baby right through to starting school.
It was so lovely to catch up with her again and see how much she has grown! 🥰

To complete our celebration, we enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea together, with cucumber sandwiches, jam and cream scones, and a delicious selection of cakes, all washed down with a good old cup of Yorkshire Tea. ☕️🧁🍰

It was such a special day filled with happy memories, laughter and a few emotional moments. We feel so lucky to have been part of her early years and will miss her very much. ❤️

This week has been our final week of summer before my family and I enjoy a break next week, and what a fun-filled week it has been! ☀️

We’ve been making the most of every opportunity for adventure, starting with a fantastic day at Ponderosa Zoo, where there was lots to see and explore.

We also enjoyed a wonderful trip to Wentworth Garden Centre & Farm, making memories and enjoying everything it had to offer.

We even managed to embrace the rainy weather with a cosy day at home! ☔️ It was lovely to slow down, spend some quality time together, play games, sing songs and get creative with some baking.

Today, we were invited to a farewell party for some of the children we regularly meet up with. It was a wonderful opportunity to spend time together before the holidays, with lots of laughter and fun. We enjoyed some classic party games, including pass the parcel and musical bumps, which were a big hit! 🎉
What a fantastic way to round off our summer adventures. We’ve had a brilliant week filled with exploration, creativity, friendship and lots of fun, and now we’re looking forward to our holiday next week! 🌈

🌳 The Yorkshire Sculpture Park

We absolutely love The Hidden Forest at the sculpture park.
It’s such a wonderful space where the children can be creative, connect with nature through drawing, build sculptures, and take part in lots of different sensory activities. A perfect place for little imaginations to run wild! 💚🎨🌿

☀️☀️☀️ Week 2 of Summer! ☀️☀️☀️

What a brilliant week we’ve had! We’ve been busy exploring, playing, learning and making lots of summer memories. 💛

🌿 Wentworth Castle Gardens
We explored the beautiful gardens and played plenty of games, including table tennis, bean bag toss, archery and Jenga! We even sent our teddies flying down a zip line! 🧸

🐑 Blackerhall Farm
We had lots of fun playing in the sand, feeding the animals and enjoying a lovely picnic together. 🧺

⚔️ The Royal Armouries
We collected our history clues for our Leeds Trivial Pursuit game, explored some of the amazing exhibits and watched an incredible Mongolian horse show. We even had a go at Mongolian throat singing! 🎶🐎

🦋 Rothwell Park
We visited the aviary to see the birds, wandered through the gardens spotting butterflies and, of course, finished off with lots of fun in the play area! 🦋🐦

It’s been an exciting few weeks here at Happy Home Day Care!

We discovered a bird’s nest with an egg and have been carefully watching from a distance, making sure not to disturb it.

We were a little worried when we found one whole egg and one damaged egg on the ground, but nature had a wonderful surprise in store for us…

We’ve spotted a tiny chick in the nest! 🐣

The children were so excited to see our newest little visitor today.

It’s been a lovely opportunity to talk about nature, caring for wildlife, and watching new life begin.

We can’t wait to see how our little chick grows over the coming weeks! 💛

Our older children break up this week, which means we won't see them for the next six weeks! 💛

Knowing how much they love getting crafty and being creative, we've set them a Summer Challenge to keep them busy over the holidays.

We can't wait to see all the amazing creations, ideas, and memories they make along the way. ☀️🎨✂️

It was warm again last week! ☀️

We all needed some fresh air (me included!), so we headed to Newmillerdam, where it was much cooler beneath the tree canopy. 🌳

We spotted a mother coot sitting on her eggs, a heron, dragonflies, lots of beautiful butterflies 🦋, and of course, plenty of ducks 🦆 and swans 🦢.

We were hoping to see some squirrels 🐿️, but unfortunately they must have been keeping cool somewhere because we didn't spot a single one!

After our walk, we treated ourselves to a nice cold drink and a snack to help cool down too. 😊

🍫 Today is National Chocolate Day! 😋

To celebrate, we made delicious rice crispy buns!

The children helped to stir the melted chocolate and rice crispies together before decorating their buns however they wished.

This fun activity encouraged them to develop their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and creativity as they carefully mixed and added their decorations.

As we made our treats, we talked about the different textures of the ingredients and discussed how the chocolate changed from a liquid to a solid after being placed in the fridge to set. This helped to build the children's language skills, understanding of simple science concepts and ability to follow instructions.

The children were very proud of their creations and have taken their buns home to share with their families (hopefully! 🤞🏻).
