The Karl Harron Glass Studio Experience.

"Imagine Northern Ireland 2019"

Experience the intricacies of deep slumping into 3-step ceramic moulds during this intensive seven-day master class, all aspects of manipulating glass in the kiln at 650°C/1200°F will be explored. Bring Your Own blank to work on!
This master class is designed to benefit all participants, no matter their level of experience with the kiln-forming process. Students new to the technique will learn the fundamentals and have time to work through the initial project, while more experienced participants will have an opportunity to review what they have learned and understood in Karl's previous master classes. Ultimately, all will be able to pursue their own vision with the materials supplied.
Time will be split between diligently working in the studio for five days plus field trips, experiencing the local area, gaining inspiration and motivation as we take time to appreciate the work of local artisans and the stunning beauty of the natural landscape and environment that the Ards Peninsula offers.

"Imagine Northern Ireland 2019" package also includes:

5-Day master class "Deep Slumped Forms: A Perfect Introduction" (Four places only are offered).
8 nights 4-Star accommodation inc. full Irish breakfast at www.edenvalehouse.com
Glass, hand-tools and machinery needed to successfully complete all studio work
Field-trips to Bushmills Distillery the oldest in the world, the Giant's Causeway, Mount Stewart House National Trust property, the Silent Valley in the Mountains of Mourne, Grace Neill's the oldest pub in Ireland est. 1611 and weather permitting, a boat trip around the Lough or a ferry ride across the "narrows" to Strangford.

You'll spend time immersed in the Ards Peninsula's splendid natural beauty and built environments. Inspired by this and other site visits, you'll spend the balance of your time working in the well-appointed Karl Harron Glass Studio.
You'll experience a variety of processes related to deep slumped vessels that Karl uses to create his signature work. These include creating an individual set of "concept tiles" and a thorough understanding of extensive cold-working techniques.
Every evening participants are free to explore the many pleasures of this historic, arts-rich area. This is a great opportunity for beginning to advanced kiln-workers as well as artists working primarily in other media. Extensive experience with the slumping process isn't necessary, but it will help to have a fondness for involved processes and a willingness to risk.
