Millisle Primary School & Nursery Unit

The ‘Little Acorns’ parent and toddler group at Millisle Baptist Church have been busy fundraising for us again!

Last year their sponsored toddle raised over £500 for early years’ reading books and they have now raised another £497, this time towards our new Nursery Sensory Room.

We have a couple more finishing touches to add to the new sensory room but our pupils are already enjoying the benefits.

Thank you once again to Rachel and the Little Acorns for their support of this Friends of Millisle Primary School project.

𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝘇 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘆 💙

We would like to share details of a community fundraising event being held in memory of Bailey, Miss Shaw’s son, who sadly passed away as a baby due to a rare condition called Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH).

This special evening marks what would have been Bailey’s 18th birthday and aims to raise funds for CDH UK, a charity that supports children and families affected by this condition.

In school this later week pupils can have a go at guessing the name of a duck (£1) or of a 4ft teddy (£2). The entry cards for these will be on a table outside reception before school from Wednesday to Friday 🤩.

Last night the Friends of Millisle Primary School held a brilliant 90s/00s Quiz Night at Abbey Villa FC. Our sincere thanks go to Catrina Brown for organising, Stephen Brown for a brilliant quiz and entertainment and to Abbey Villa for hosting us.

The ballot on the night was also a tremendous success with so many wonderful prizes donated by local businesses in support of our Nursery SEN Room Project.

In the next couple of weeks we will be ready to get to work on our new dedicated sensory space!

The fundraising drive for our new Nursery Unit Sensory Room continued today with a fantastic Friends of Millisle Primary School haircutting fundraiser.

A huge thank you to Jodie (Hair by Jodie Kirkwood) and Katie (The Barbers Den), who generously gave up their working day to take appointments throughout the day, with all proceeds going directly towards our Nursery Sensory Room project.

The results were fabulous, and we are so grateful for their support and generosity.

We would also like to thank Millisle Eurospar, who have chosen to support our fundraiser throughout May by making us their community fundraising cause. We are incredibly thankful for the support of our wider community as we work towards creating this special space for our Nursery children 🤩

We appreciate our Facebook feed has been on overdrive lately with The Wizard of Oz and the marathon, but there’s just one more thing we have to share this bank holiday weekend…

Miss Gray has been in Lisbon 🇵🇹 this weekend, taking part in an international Hyrox competition. Her relay team have only gone and won the women’s U40 category!! 🥇

Huge congratulations from everyone at MPS!

Miss Gray is an outstanding sporting role model for our pupils and has been successfully growing female participation in sport in Millisle since joining our teaching team in 2021. 👏

Congratulations to our marathon relay team, who each ran a leg of today’s Belfast Marathon. Mr Maitland, Mrs Dines, Mrs Rainey, Mr Goldthorpe and Mr McManus completed the race in 3 hours 43 minutes.

The staff were raising money for the NI Childrens Heartbeat Trust in recognition of the wonderful support they have provided, and continue to provide, to our former pupil, Gaby Irvine.

A special mention to Mr Maitland for organising the team and for driving back from a holiday in Donegal to run his leg (well, two and a bit, actually).

🚓 PSNI Road Safety Visit 🚓

We were delighted to welcome our local neighbourhood officers into school today, where they met with every class to talk about the importance of road safety.

From the risks around parked cars and school buses on Abbey Road, to making smart decisions when out and about, this was such an important message for all our pupils—especially as the brighter weather means more of our older children are gaining independence.

Learning how to stay safe near roads isn’t just for school hours—it’s a life skill we want every child to carry with them every day.

A huge thank you to Police Ards & North Down Officers Aaron and Aaron for their continued support, commitment, and the positive relationships they build with our school and the wider Millisle community 👏

𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 🕯️

We were honoured to once again play a part in Ards and North Down Borough Council’s Holocaust Commemoration Event at Bangor Castle this evening.

Our P7 pupils told the stories of Jewish children rescued by the Kindertransport and brought to a farm in Millisle at the beginning of World War Two.
