MCP First Aid Training | Five-Day Regulated Qualification

MCP First Aid Training is preparing to deliver the Immediate Response Emergency Care (RQF) qualification, a five-day course designed to equip learners with the knowledge, practical skills and understanding required to provide appropriate immediate care in emergency situations.

Developed in response to lessons identified following the Manchester Arena bombing, this qualification focuses on preparing responders to manage serious incidents and deliver effective immediate care within their level of training and competence.

Who is this qualification for?

This qualification is aimed at individuals working, or intending to work, within the event medical and security industries, where an enhanced level of emergency care knowledge and practical competence is required.

The qualification is designed to align with relevant industry expectations, including the requirements referenced in the Purple Guide to Health, Safety and Welfare at Outdoor Events, and is identified as Category D within the Faculty of Pre-Hospital Care Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) Skills Framework.

What can learners expect?

Over five days, learners will be expected to demonstrate their knowledge, practical skills, decision-making and ability to respond appropriately to a range of emergency scenarios. Progress will be monitored throughout the course by the faculty team.

This is an intensive course requiring commitment, preparation and active participation.

CARDIAC ARREST DOESN’T WAIT — WOULD YOUR ORGANISATION KNOW WHAT TO DO?

A collapsed person may appear to be breathing. But those strange, irregular gasps may actually be agonal breathing — a recognised sign of cardiac arrest.

Do not mistake gasping for normal breathing.

If someone is unresponsive and not breathing normally:

* CALL 999
* START CPR
* GET AN AED and use it as soon as possible
* Continue CPR until help arrives or the person shows clear signs of life

Whether you are responsible for a workplace, sports club, school, community organisation or public event, you cannot assume someone else will know what to do.

Every minute matters. Every action matters.

The first person on scene could be the person who makes the difference between life and death.

CPR IS NOT A TABLETOP SKILL.

Let’s be honest: practising CPR on a raised training table is not the same as performing CPR on the floor.

A real cardiac arrest doesn’t happen at a convenient training height.

Good practical training should include the opportunity to practise:

• Getting safely down to the casualty
• Positioning correctly on the floor
• Delivering effective chest compressions
• Maintaining correct compression technique
• Using an AED in a realistic environment
• Working through a complete resuscitation scenario

This isn’t about criticising every provider who uses a training table. It’s about asking whether the training genuinely prepares candidates for what they may face outside the classroom.

At MCP First Aid Training, we don’t believe practical skills should be taught purely for convenience.

If you’re teaching CPR, don’t just demonstrate the technique — give people the opportunity to practise it in a realistic position.

As you can see from the image there are some training providers not adhering to the recommended training standards. All learners must be able to get down on the ground unaided to obtain the regulated qualification.

As you can see on the image this training provider has placed Inflatable manakins on a raised platform and learners hand position are wrong.

MCP First Aid Training is delighted to be providing a fully accredited 3-hour Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) course for a wonderful Christian group who are committed to caring for and supporting those around them.

It’s a real privilege to help equip members of their church community with the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to respond in an emergency — while also giving them the opportunity to gain a fully certified training qualification.

For me, effective first aid training is about more than simply completing a course. It’s about being prepared, having the confidence to act, and knowing that your skills could make a real difference when someone needs help most.

I’m looking forward to an engaging and worthwhile session together.
