Cracking wee night at the club. Nothing like a few long awaited stripes and belts to award.

Lucy Will has been training for almost three years and it’s a pleasure to promote her to blue belt. Sorry about your wrists.

is five years in. Competes regularly, consistently trains no matter what life throws puts in his way.

Couldn’t be prouder of either of them

Earned not deserved.

Belts Aren’t Given. They’re Earned.
To every kid and teen on the mats putting in the work — this one’s for you.
Grading day isn’t just about a new belt or stripe. It’s a marker of everything that happened before that moment:
• Every practice you almost didn’t want to go to
• Every tap you took and got back up from
• Every time you drilled the same technique until your body just knew it
• Every roll where you got smashed by someone bigger… and came back the next class anyway
That’s what grading really celebrates. Not perfection — persistence.
Why It Matters
In BJJ, there’s no faking it. You can’t talk your way into a stripe. The mats don’t care about excuses, and they don’t lie. If you’re moving up, it’s because you put in the reps. That’s a kind of confidence no participation trophy can give you.
To the Coaches and Parents
Thank you for showing up, cheering loud, and reminding these athletes that the grind is the whole point — the belt is just proof it happened.

The goal isn’t to protect your ego—it’s to expose your weaknesses.

The people who improve the fastest aren’t the ones who win the most rounds. They’re the ones willing to fail, get uncomfortable, and learn from it.

Stop using training to prove what you know.

Use it to discover what you don’t.

Stop chasing validation. Start chasing growth.

Well done to started back in the teens class. Quietly putting the work in and being consistent. He’s been solidly training in the adults class for the last 18 months.

2 x ADCC Ireland gold medallist
British medallist
2 x invitational winner
Multiple empire grappling medalist.

Come down and harvest is wrists.

Consistency is key. Belts at this club aren’t deserved. They are grafted for and earned.

The Grapple Effect.
You walked in carrying the week, you walked out lighter.
That’s what the mat does-it demands everything in front of you so there is no room for anything else.
10 Reasons why training fixes something talking can’t.

Brazilian jiu-jitsu is great for young people because it builds confidence, discipline, fitness, and emotional resilience. It teaches them to stay calm under pressure, solve problems, and improve through consistent effort. BJJ also creates a strong sense of community and provides realistic self-defense skills while promoting humility and respect.
