Tutoring Experience:
I am currently a Part-time Lecturer at Northern Regional College and I am called upon to cover classes for courses that have a maths or science need. Most of these courses are Level 2 or 3 of Further Education. I have also privately tutored students studying for their Access to University courses – with emphasis being on the Maths and Science elements. Personal Description:
I am a 35 year old father of 2, and run my own print business with my wife, Lisa. I am currently in the process of gaining a BSc Honours Degree in Physics. I am passionate about Science and Maths, and thoroughly enjoy teaching these subjects. Extended CRB (Criminal Record) Check:
I have an extended CRB (Criminal record) check carried out in January 2014 by Access NI. The certificate is available on request. More information on this check can be found on the Access NI site. Tutoring Approach:
I truly believe that in order to teach a subject effectively, you need to have a good engagement with the student. I need to find out what methods best suit each student – some respond better to practical demonstrations rather than solely textbook learning. I also find that making lessons fun, will help the understanding of the subject. Praising students on areas that they are doing well in also motivates them to work hard on areas that they are having difficulty with. As well as face to face tuition, I also offer E-mail support between lessons, should the student have additional questions or difficulty on a certain area.
