For many children, getting through the school day can require a huge amount of energy.

They may be:

- Masking or suppressing their natural responses
- Managing sensory overwhelm from noise, lights, touch or busy spaces
- Constantly working out social expectations
- Coping with transitions and unexpected changes
- Sitting still or concentrating in ways that take enormous effort
- Holding in emotions because it doesn’t feel safe or possible to express them at school

By the time they get home, it feels like their nervous system has nothing left to give.

That release can look like crying, shouting, needing to control what happens next, withdrawing, seeking lots of movement or sensory input, struggling with demands or having a meltdown.

It isn’t that they have had a 'good day' at school and are just being defiant at home.

After school might need to be a time for decompression rather than more demands.

We will be exploring this in our upcoming workshop which is proving to be EXTREMELY popular!

We’ll look beneath behaviour, think about regulation and unmet needs and explore practical, neuro-affirming ways to support children without expecting them to mask who they are.

If your child seems to use every last bit of their capacity getting through the school day, I’d love to have you there.

🍂 Primary 3 Activity-Based Learning 🍁

Primary 3 have been enjoying lots of autumn-themed learning through play! 🌿🎨

Outdoors, the children worked together to build dens using natural materials, developing teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills.

Indoors, they explored autumn through art and ICT, enjoying leaf rubbing, colour mixing and creative activities. 🍁🖌️💻 Along the way, they developed their vocabulary as they talked about autumn colours, textures and seasonal changes.

Lots of fun, creativity and learning together! 😊
