Well done Patrycja.

It is always a privilege to celebrate the journey of our past pupils and see where their passion and hard work have led them. Today, we're catching up with former Hazelwood Integrated College student, Patrycja!

Having attended both Hazelwood Integrated Primary School and Hazelwood Integrated College, Patrycja has recently celebrated an incredible milestone, graduating with a Master's degree in Physics with Astrophysics from Queen's University Belfast.

During her studies, Patrycja completed a placement year at the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source with the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), where she developed automated software and integrated it into a section of their synchrotron – an outstanding achievement and a testament to her hard work and determination.

Reflecting on her journey, Patrycja shared:

"I am extremely grateful for all of the help and guidance the teachers and staff provided me with during my time at Hazelwood.

Without the help of my teachers, I would never have discovered my passion for physics or achieved the A Levels I needed to progress to Queen's University Belfast. I never, in my wildest dreams, expected to come so far. I still remember sitting with my teacher while I kept saying I wasn't sure which A Level subjects to take. I kept changing my classes, and he made it possible for me to study physics.

Thank you for everything Hazelwood has done to help me reach my goals and become the person I am today."

Everyone at Hazelwood is incredibly proud of everything Patrycja has achieved. Her journey is a wonderful example of where curiosity, perseverance and the right support can lead. We wish her every success as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her career.

Well done Sarah. What an achievement.

Congratulations to former pupil and former Head Girl, Sarah Watson, on graduating from Ulster University's Magee campus with a First Class Honours degree in Cinematic Arts.

Sarah, who also attended Hazelwood Integrated Primary School, achieved this outstanding milestone while helping to establish the production company Wee Donkey Productions alongside her university studies—a fantastic example of ambition, creativity and entrepreneurship.

Everyone at Hazelwood is incredibly proud of Sarah's success and wishes her every success in the future. Her journey is an inspiration to our current pupils as they work towards achieving their own ambitions.

Congratulations to past student Ellie Bywater, who has graduated from Ulster University with a first class honours in BSC Health and Social Care Policy and is returning to do a Masters in Social Policy at Ulster. Ellie studied double award science and health and social care at A level, at BTC. We are very proud of you, Ellie!

I would like to thank all our parents and carers who turned up so promptly today to collect your children.
Closing a school early is never an easy decision to make, and always done with a sense of regret.
The really disturbing events that occurred last night coupled with the threat of similar protests happening at 1:00 this afternoon on major roads in Belfast left me with no choice but to close early.
The decision to close the school was made in the best interests of the safety and welfare of our pupils our staff and our families.
I viewed the terrible scenes this morning on the news. Scenes of families being forcibly displaced from their burning homes, cars been torched and young children running for their lives.
The awful scenes were in stark contrast to the ethos of our school, and everything that Hazelwood Integrated Primary School believes in.
A school where children learn with one another, from one another, and about one another.
A school that celebrates diversity and difference.
A school the teaches children to be proud of their identity and to be respectful of other identities.
I want to assure our parents and carers that Hazelwood will continue to be the safe compassionate and caring school it always has been. That you and your child, regardless of your faith, your identity or your culture are welcomed and cherished as part of our diverse community.
Can I appeal to any of our families that may have been affected by the recent violence on our streets to please get in touch with me at school. Hazelwood is a school, but it is also family , and like all families we look after one another.
The school will be open at the normal time for all our pupils tomorrow morning.

P2 had a fantastic trip to W5. The children had great fun and many said it was the best trip ever 😁

What a fantastic School Fair we had for our 40th year. Thank you to all the parents who supported the event and the staff for all their efforts to ensure everyone had a great time.

As part of our topic Ancient Egypt P5 had a great time in the woods making pyramids from natural materials.

Outside is the perfect place to learn positional language! We had lots of fun following the instructions to move beside, behind and in front of different items. We even tried to see how many people we could fit inside a hoop! P2 just love learning outdoors!
