Our Makaton World Cup was a huge success! (Noise warning: There is some cheering on slide 3)

Our four finalists Sharon, Hannah, Miss Balfour and Jess were incredibly strong competitors. They have learnt a The Makaton Charity sign per day for the last 6 months and could recall every one at lightning speed!
For some background, Wargrave House School are learning a sign a day across the whole year, and we put on our World Cup to celebrate the half way point (and to tie in with a certain world sport event).
Our audience got behind the finalists and cheered everyone on. We also live streamed the event to classrooms for those who wanted to watch from a quieter location (thank you to the amazing Remarkable Group IT team)
And the 2026 Makaton World Cup Winner is …

We had an amazing afternoon with Wargrave House School yesterday celebrating all things The Makaton Charity leading up to our staff Makaton World Cup.
Before the big event we set up lots of different Makaton themed activities in the gym including:
- Photo Booth where we got to be YouTubers and practiced different Makaton signs for the camera
- story corner with Makaton signs to go with different books
- Makaton Bingo: identify the Makaton sign
- Makaton pairs: match the picture to the sign
- speed signing practice on our World Cup pitch
- a creation station to create signs to cheer on our finalists

This week with Wargrave House School 📸
- KS4 enjoying some more sensory circuits outside
- KS2 play-based SaLT sessions, with AAC on hand always!
- Blum class enjoying Lego Therapy with Kevin - all of this term’s Lego structures have tied in with the curriculum!
- SaLT group with Dragonfly exploring different autistic strengths and different communication styles
- not pictured but we also had a great time joining learners at Sports Day this week! So many wonderful examples of teamwork, following instructions and lots of gross motor skills put to the test!
