If you are a parent, carer, or a learner, complete the survey 👉https://bit.ly/399yvi8

The survey will close on Monday 25 January at 12 noon.

Education Scotland will undertake a national overview of the delivery of remote learning that celebrates what is working well, identifies any challenges and where further support is required. Lets get Kirstin and her colleagues to number 1 for Christmas. Kirstin is part of the St Cadocs family and a frontline worker at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The choir are amazing and deserve the number 1 spot.

Thank You.

The ICU Liberty Singers Member - Kirstin McGettrick

Some of our ICU staff have been part of a nationwide, virtual choir. Now the ICU Liberty Singers are in a race for Christmas number one with a charity release of classic Police track ‘Every Breath You Take’.

Meet one of our singer's.

▶️ Staff nurse Kirstin McGettrick, Glasgow Royal Infirmary ◀️
"It is something so positive to come from something that was - and still is - so hard for so many. In ICU we often ask patients or families if they would like music played and it has the power to relax.

The choir coming together is an example of how everyone has pulled together during the COVID pandemic. In Glasgow Royal Infirmary, we have been so grateful to be helped by so many others. We have had staff moved from their own clinical areas such as Theatres, Recovery and Nurse Specialists to come to ICU to help us look after the much greater number of patients with COVID-19. We could not have cared for these patients if it was not for them and we are forever grateful.

The choir is a representation of everyone pulling together for a common goal having lived through a shared experience. It makes you feel less isolated as you know ICU staff from all specialities up and down the country have all experienced what you have.

Please know that we always endeavour to care for the most precious people in your world in ICU as if they were our own and just as we are separated from our own families over the Christmas period we will adopt the patients as our Christmas family."

The video for the single can be found: https://bit.ly/3nr7LhW or you can pre-order the single now at: https://bit.ly/3ms70Uv

Make this your Christmas number one!

Dear Parent/Carer

Next week is Book Week Scotland, to celebrate all children will be taking part in a sponsored Read-a-thon to raise money for school Funds. The Read-a-thon will take place on Friday in every class. If children would like to, they can bring in their favourite book from home to read at this time.

We really appreciate your support with this and would ask if children could bring any sponsor money/donations to school on Friday. At the moment, school funds are low and your help would allow us to purchase further resources for our library, games and activities for indoor playtime, technology and Lego.

Children will be completing activities throughout the week relating to Book Week Scotland, keep an eye on Twitter! Primary 1 will be gifted their Bookbug Family bags and Primary 2 and 3 will receive their Read, Write, Count bags.

As always we appreciate your support.

‘Learning Together’ – Online Numeracy and Maths sessions for parents to support Learning at Home

The National Parent Forum of Scotland has Making Maths Count Group which aims to raise the profile of maths. The forum had planned to hold focus groups across Scotland to gauge parents views on maths and what specifically do they need to support their children with maths. As you would imagine the Covid pandemic has meant that the focus groups are suspended. However the forum has arranged a series of 8 webinars for parents and children on maths led by Chris McKenna from Count on Us and supported by Education Scotland. The first webinar is for first level (P2-P4) and later webinars will take the learning up to P7. I am sure that in these uncertain times this will be a valuable resource for those of us who are trying to help our children with home learning. The webinars will be recorded so you can watch live or go back to view them at a later date. Details are

www.beatthestreet.me

Beat the Street is back in East Renfrewshire. St Cadoc’s PSA have set up a community team. Beat boxes can be found in Clarkston, Busby, Giffnock, Eaglesham, Thornliebank, Neilston, Rouken Glen Park and Whitelees Windfarm. As there are no boxes in a Newton Mearns school children are not automatically given the key fob like last year.

You can pick up cards for adults and children at all the local libraries in areas taking part (ie everywhere except Mearns and Barrhead). Also at Eastwood Park Leisure Centre and Rouken Glen Park at the building beside the play park.

You need to register the card on the website. We would love it if you could join the St Cadoc’s PSA Community Team.

More information about Beat the Street can be found at following website.

We are currently in the middle of organising the Delaney Chess fun day which will be taking place in the school on Thursday 20 February. We have almost 100 children signed up to participate in the tournament with lots more coming along to join in the chess-related fun activities! We think this might be the biggest Delancey chess tournament in Scotland!

In order to make the day as successful as possible we are looking for volunteers to help us on the day. You do not need to be able to play chess as we also need help with the chess related arts & crafts, supervising the videos etc. If you are able to help out – even if just for an hour or two - then please contact Leonie O’Connor on 07753 622304 or email [email protected]

We really want to make this day a huge success and lots of fun for the children!

We are all very excited about our Christmas Fayre tomorrow. Even if you cannot make it along please support this event by purchasing a raffle ticket, buying your child's enterprise creation or making a donation. Every little helps! Money raised at the Fayre pays for all the wee extra fun things our children enjoy which are not covered by the schools budget.
Hope to see you there.
