🌿 Help Us Create an Incredible Outdoor Play Space for the Pre School 🌿

Our amazing pre-school teachers and the PTFA have been working hard to renovate a beautiful new outdoor learning and play area for our Pre School children

We now have:
- Mud Kitchen
- Sensory tables
- - Water Table
- Sand Pit
- Bricks to stack
- and a much needed sun shade

𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 & 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻

Newton Ferrers school, its PTFA and Parish Council are all working together to highlight the need for improved road safety awareness outside of the school, and we very much welcome the wider community’s support.

Although incidents aren’t a new issue around the junction outside the school, recent near-misses have highlighted that although we live in a relatively small and quiet part of the world, it only takes a moment of distraction or carelessness, for an accident, or worse, to happen.

Taking time to assess the contributory factors, we’ve noted that 3 key issues are the leading causes of the road safety issues:
𝟭) 𝗟𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 - making it hard for non-local drivers to identify exactly where children maybe crossing
𝟮) 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 - causing challenges for parents and other road users during peak times
𝟯) 𝗜𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 - no clear crossing point causes pedestrians to cross at multiple and poorly visible points

The Parish Council have been working hard lobbying Devon County Council for a School Crossing/Lollipop Warden, and this along with a number of other medium and long-term measures which are under consultation. We have created an Incident Report Log form to help us build evidence for the Devon County Council of the need for action.

As such the school, PTFA and Parish Council have looked at a range of measures that we can influence directly to help try and make our roads safer for children, parents, drivers and the community as a whole:

𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝘂𝗺-𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺 (𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻):
- Lollipop Warden
- Implementation of a 20mph limit along Parsonage Road
- Road surface ‘School’ signs

We have already been able to instigate a number of these solutions, and more will follow in due course. We do encourage you to engage with us positively on any of the points above, so that we can work together on keeping our village a safe place to live and enjoy for all generations.

PTFA meeting tomorrow evening at the Dolphin, Newton Ferrers, from 7.30pm. Everyone welcome - it would be amazing to see some new faces...it's all very casual and a nice excuse to have a glass of vino and chat about how we can improve things for the school.

Come and experience this fantastic life-size “Firehorse” created to celebrate the Chinese New Year 🧧🐎

Children from Newton Ferrers Church of England Primary School, with the help of Ruipeng Sweeting and Annie Mackenzie, carefully crafted the horse from willow and paper. It was created to celebrate the Chinese Year of the Horse while also helping to raise funds for the school PTFA ❤️

Now, it’s making a special appearance at Collaton Park Open Days this weekend and this is your final chance to see it before it returns home to the school.

Check out this fantastic life-size “fire horse” created to celebrate the Chinese new year.

Children from Newton Ferrers Church of England Primary School, with help from Ruipeng Sweeting and Annie Mackenzie, created the horse from willow and paper to celebrate the Chinese year of the horse and help raise funds for the Newton Ferrers C Of E School PTFA (Parent Teacher Friends Association)

The horse is on display at Plymouth BYD car showroom during Chinese new year and will then return to be hung in the school hall.

Christmas Hamper raffle - this week! Only two days left to buy your raffle tickets for our festive hamper raffle...we have 9 incredible hampers up for grabs with all proceeds going to Newton Ferrers Primary School to fund a whole host of projects and equipment within our theme of science and STEM. You can buy tickets from any Newton Ferrers pupil or directly from the school reception. The raffle will be drawn during Carols Around the Tree on Friday afternoon. Tickets are £1 each.
