, takes place on the 88th day of the year – in 2022 it’s the 29th March – because of the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated 🥳

In honour of our friends over at are hosting a online workshop today to celebrate. Graham Fitch will present a collection of his tried & tested principles and tools for learning new pieces and practising more effectively.

EXCITING NEWS! We are having an Open Rehearsal on Saturday 25th September 10-12:30 at Woodwater School EX2 5AW
If you are 7-18 come along, bring your instrument and have a go at playing in an orchestra. We don't have any auditions and have 3 orchestras that suit all players.
If you are just starting out why not come along at 11am and have a try of our junior orchestra, Helen our tutor will make you feel welcome and you can meet some of our other children just starting out.
If you are a little bit more advanced come and try the children's orchestra. Rob, our musical director, has some fantastic music for you to play and you can have a chat to our other children.
All we ask is that you bring your instrument, a music stand and pencil and a drink and snack. Parents you can have a cup of tea or coffee, a slice of cake and chat with a member of the committee whilst listening to your children enjoy playing in an orchestra.

Exeter Children's Orchestra provides really good opportunities for local children and young people. A very worthwhile organisation to support. I really hope they are able to get up and running again as soon as it is feasible and safe to do so. Please support if you can, and once they are able to meet again recommend them to any young musicians you know.

The 'John Lewising' of Auld Lang Syne.

I don't know about you but 2020 has been more than a little challenging! I am looking forward to new year, but think the celebrations may have a different feel to them this year.

I have been messing about with Auld Lang Syne this week and enjoying experimenting with different harmonies. I love how the same song can be played in many different ways. This video gives you an idea of how far I have got with it so far, and I have put together a series of 3 videos which go into more detail about the process I have used.
