GCSE Success: Coombeshead Academy Students Celebrate Results Day

Students at Coombeshead Academy were in exceptionally high spirits today as they collected their GCSE results (Thursday 20TH August), marking the end of an important chapter and the start of new and exciting opportunities.

The school is celebrating the achievements of all its students today, with some standout successes including:

Coombeshead Academy offers students an exceptional range of opportunities beyond the classroom, helping them develop confidence, creativity and ambition alongside academic success.

Over the past year, students have represented the school in the Historical Association's Great Debate, welcomed visitors from Beijing as part of an international cultural exchange, won a national Show Racism the Red Card award for their original anti-racism song Connected, and hosted one of the UK's prestigious Music for Youth regional events.

The school has also continued to champion creativity through the nationally recognised Codex Project, inspiring schools across the country to connect through art. These experiences reflect Coombeshead's commitment to developing well-rounded young people who are equipped to thrive as learners, leaders and global citizens.

A-Level Success: Coombeshead Students Take the Next Step Towards Bright Futures
Students from Coombeshead Academy have been picking up their A Level exam results this morning (13th August.)
Students across the Sixth Form have worked incredibly hard throughout their studies, demonstrating resilience, determination and commitment as they prepare to take their next steps into higher education and beyond.
Among the students celebrating today is Harmony H, who achieved an impressive A and four Bs. Harmony will now head to the University of Birmingham to study Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery, beginning an exciting journey towards a career in the sciences.
Brooke D achieved three Bs and will be heading to the University of Southampton to study Law.
There are also exciting opportunities ahead for students pursuing a wide range of subjects and careers. Indi will be continuing her creative studies at Arts University Plymouth, where she will study Illustration.
Zander G is heading to the University of Plymouth to study Physiotherapy, while Ella W will also be studying in Plymouth, pursuing a degree in Forensics.
Charlie C will be taking his passion for photography to Falmouth University, where he will study Marine and Natural History Photography, combining creativity with his interest in the natural world.
These destinations reflect the breadth of talent, ambition and interests within the Coombeshead Sixth Form community. From chemistry and law to illustration, physiotherapy, forensics and photography, our students are embarking on a diverse range of exciting futures.
Coombeshead Sixth Form College offers one of the broadest ranges of academic and vocational courses in the Newton Abbot area, delivered by experienced subject specialists in a supportive and nurturing environment.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Jay's Aim Charity Raffle! 🎉
Thanks to the generosity of our students, families, staff and local businesses, we raised an amazing £472 to support Jay's Aim and their life-saving work providing free CPR and defibrillator training across the South West.
A special thank you to Sports Direct, CeX, Pizza Café and Bungle Ltd for their donations, and well done to our 19 lucky winners, including Olivia, who won the top prize of a £50 CeX voucher.
Finally, thank you to our brilliant Year 9 and Year 10 volunteers who helped sell raffle tickets around school. Your support made this event such a success!

What a week away for the students (and staff) who went on the Bay of Naples trip! The group arrived safely in Sorrento on the Tuesday evening and had a few hours to explore the lemon themed shops.
Wednesday started with a trip to Pompeii with an expert guide who took as through the remarkable excavations that are still ongoing. The temperature was very high but the students coped really well with the heat. In the afternoon we hiked to the crater of Mt Vesuvius, which was responsible for the devastation in Pompeii and last erupted in 1944 - luckily no sign of any activity on the day! In the evening we had time to enjoy a swim at our our accommodation and watch the football...
Thursday was a boat trip around the Sorrento peninsula, to the rather wealthy (and expensive) coastal towns of Positano and Amalfi. The views along the coastline were stunning and the fresh breeze on the boat a welcome relief from the heat! In the evening we stayed in Sorrento to eat out and enjoy freshly made gelato.
Friday was an early start to pack up and head to the centre of Naples, where we explored underground Naples - a collection of tunnels and caverns originally dug by the Greeks to create an underground water supply and also used as bomb shelters in World War 2. We had time for a little street food before heading off to the airport to fly home arriving back at school around 12.30am - a long day but a fantastic trip and the students did the school proud.

🍃The time is ticking until the summer break begins and my goodness, haven't the staff and students earnt their break! On site, this week consisted of 10 mile walks, festival of sport, and classroom building games, which really highlighted our students' resilience, perseverance, and wonderful nature (we only had a few moans on that last half mile...🙃). There are TONNES of photos to come once all the trips are back so keep an eye out but for now, look at the year 8's go! Being in the Devon, we did have an obligatory run in with a bull on our travels but luckily Mr Doxford kept us safe 🐄
