People often ask me what I do, and the obvious answer is that I teach guitar.

But the truth is, I've realised I'm not really selling guitar lessons.

I'm sharing what guitar can give someone.

For me, guitar gave me lifelong friends. It gave me confidence when I needed it most. It gave me somewhere I belonged. It taught me discipline, opened doors to work I genuinely love, introduced me to an incredible community, and became a huge part of who I am.

That's why I do what I do.

Yes, I'll teach you chords. Yes, I'll help you play songs. But those are just the beginning.

What I really hope is that, years from now, you'll look back and say learning guitar changed your life in ways you never expected.

Because I don't just want people to learn guitar.

I want guitar to become one of the best things that ever happened to them.

WILL THEY ACTUALLY PLAY IT? 🎸

It’s a question a lot of parents naturally have when thinking about a first guitar:

“What if I buy it and they lose interest?”

You can’t guarantee a child will stick with guitar.

But you can make it easier for them to want to pick it up again.

Keep the guitar somewhere safe and visible.

Give them one small, achievable thing to learn rather than overwhelming them with practice.

And if they start enjoying it, make sure there’s somewhere for them to go next.

You don’t need to play guitar yourself either.

Sometimes one of the best things you can say is simply:

“Show me what you’ve learned.”

Those little wins and a bit of encouragement can matter far more at the beginning than how much they practise.

The goal isn't to make them a guitarist overnight. It’s to make them want to pick the guitar up again. 🎸

DON’T MAKE GUITAR HARDER 🎸

A child’s first guitar should make learning easier — not harder.

The right size, comfort and playability can make a huge difference in those first few weeks.

If a guitar is too big, uncomfortable or simply difficult to play, a young beginner doesn’t know the guitar is the problem.

They can very quickly think:

“𝗠𝗮𝘆𝗯𝗲 𝗜’𝗺 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗼 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀.”

And that’s exactly what we want to avoid.

Get the basics right and you give them a much better chance to enjoy those first experiences of playing.
