Today we celebrate international women's day.

On this International Women's Day, we celebrate all the amazing women in our lives and in our sector who inspire and empower us every day. We honour the women who have made a positive impact on our lives, including mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, teachers, carers and mentors especially the Early Years practitioners in Giggles.

We believe in the power of education and play to empower the next generation of girls and women. This year's theme of 'embrace equity' reminds us of the importance of breaking down barriers and promoting gender equality in all areas of life.

As a setting that creates and shapes the next generation we strive to promote diversity, inclusion, and gender equality in all aspects of our work.

We're proud as small business owners and we to support the development of the next generation of female leaders, thinkers, and creators through our unique approach to early childhood education and professional development.

Let's continue to work together to create a more equitable world for all women.

To all the women out there - thank you for everything you do. Happy International Women's Day!

Infant Mental Health Week

The theme for this year’s Infant Mental Health Awareness Week is ‘Understanding Early Trauma’.

The past two years have been difficult for many families, with lockdown meaning many infants and parents have missed out on critical socialisation and support opportunities. The rising cost of living has brought increasing poverty, while reports show that domestic violence is increasing. Early experiences directly impact brain development, and adverse experiences can have a life-long impact.

Over the next week our Early Years Practitioners will be attending various professional development opportunities to develop awareness and implement strategies to promote infant mental health.

We will also be signposting parents via our Famly app to the various workshops that parents can avail of to support their children.

To mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Rory Best will be shining a light on the experiences of children and young people by ‘walking a mile in their shoes’ or in this case, walking an epic 180 miles from Daisy Lodge in Co. Down to the site of Cancer Fund for Children’s new short break centre in Co. Mayo.

Giggles is holding a yellow 💛 day tomorrow. We are encouraging our colleagues and children to wear yellow in solidarity with this great cause. We are asking for a donation of £1 per child please.

Baby Massage 💆🏼‍♀️

Today baby room 1 enjoyed a massage on the legs and feet 🦶 this is to encourage our children to relax while helping with sleep and digestion.

🧘‍♀️The yoga moves performed today for our babies included:
- hip sequence
- knees to chest stretch - spin of the spine aids digestion and releasing of wind which is good for children with colic.
- Knees from side to side – gives the spine a gentle twist and massages the lower back.
- Hip rolling- strengthens hips and aids digestion.
- Back tickle- releases the back arch and is especially good after time in the car seat.
- Arm action opening and closing the arms
• Promotes coordination
• Strengthens arms and shoulders
• Opens the chest
• Increases the lung capacity

Thank you 🙏to Bridgeen for coming to share her knowledge and expertise with our early year’s practitioners.

Our 2 to 3 year olds engaged in painting 🖼activities using flowers and paints. A child led activity, no stencils or colouring in. This lets the child’s imagination take control as opposed as to what an adult would like. Our activities are process not product led. Promoting creativity, language, vocabulary and problem solving.

Early Years Practitioners have a privileged position where they play an essential role in a child’s brain development.

💜Every day relationships will shape the child’s brain.
👶 0-1 forms connections between what the child sees, hears, tastes and feels.
🧒 1-2 the child becomes vocal as thier understanding of emotions develop
🧮 3 Years old a child has 3 trillion brain connections the most they will ever have in life
