📚 September Tuition Availability

It’s been a very busy couple of weeks with assessments for new pupils joining my classes in September. 😊

My SEAG Transfer Test groups for children entering P6 are now almost at capacity. A limited number of additional spaces will become available once my current P7 pupils finish the Transfer Test in November.

Just a little reminder that the longer you leave it to enquire, the less flexibility I will have with days and times. I keep my groups small and carefully match children by ability and learning targets, so spaces are limited.

📖 Classes are available for children from P4 through to Year 10 (3rd Year), covering English, maths and SEAG Transfer Test preparation.

If you’re considering some additional support for your child this school year, please feel free to get in touch to arrange a FREE, no-obligation assessment. 😊

📚 SEAG Transfer Test preparation is starting to step up a little!

Over the past few months, I've gradually built up the difficulty of the work with my P6 groups.

We've covered most of the main topics several times now, so we're starting to look at some more challenging questions and the different ways familiar topics can be asked.

A big focus at the minute is also cutting out those silly mistakes. Reading the full question, underlining important information, keeping working out clear and not rushing just because you recognise the topic. 🚫

I've been really pleased with the work the children have put in over the summer. There's still plenty of time to go and plenty more to cover, but we're making really good progress. 😊

And, most importantly, summer still needs to feel like summer! 😎

📃SEAG Transfer Test Mock Exams 2026📃

One of the biggest reasons children underperform in the SEAG isn't ability. It's unfamiliarity with exam conditions.

Now in its fifth year, my SEAG Mock Exam programme helps pupils experience a realistic exam before the real day, giving them the confidence, experience and feedback they need to perform at their best. 💪

Every pupil will:

✅ Sit a full SEAG-style mock exam created by me under realistic exam conditions.

✅ Receive detailed marking and personalised feedback.

✅ Be invited to a live Zoom review session, where I'll go through the paper, explain the most challenging questions, discuss common mistakes and share the techniques and strategies that can help maximise marks in the real exam.

✅ Enjoy a tasty doughnut after all their hard work! 🍩

The Zoom follow-up is one of the most valuable parts of the process. Rather than simply receiving a score, pupils leave knowing exactly what they need to improve and how to approach similar questions with confidence.

📅 Mock Exam Dates
• Saturday 19th September
• Saturday 26th September
• Saturday 17th October
• Saturday 24th October

📍 Venue

💷 Each mock exam costs £40 and includes the full, tailor-made SEAG-style exam, detailed marking, personalised feedback and the live Zoom review session.

September sessions are already 75% booked, while October sessions are already 80% full. Places are filling quickly, so if you'd like to secure a place, I'd encourage you to get in touch soon.

If you have any questions or would like to book, just send me a message.

I'm always incredibly grateful when parents take the time to leave a review.

Since starting Education Support Hub in 2019, my aim has always been to provide lessons that are calm, supportive and challenging in equal measure. Whether it's building confidence in English and maths or preparing children for the SEAG Transfer Test, I want every child to feel they are making steady progress each week.

It's particularly pleasing to hear parents mention not only the resources and mock examinations, but also the feedback their child receives after each lesson. Understanding why a question was answered incorrectly is often just as important as getting it right in the first place.

Thank you, Marta, for your kind words. It has been a pleasure working with your daughter, and I wish her every success as she continues her SEAG journey.

📚 There Isn't Just One Way to Solve a Problem

One thing I regularly remind my pupils is that there is rarely just one good way to solve a maths question.

Some children immediately understand a bar model. Others prefer drawing a diagram, writing out the calculation or breaking the problem down into smaller steps. The important thing isn't using the same method as everyone else. It's understanding why the method works.

That's why you'll often see me modelling the same question in different ways during my lessons. We discuss each approach, compare them and talk about which method is likely to be the most efficient in different situations.

As children grow in confidence, they naturally begin choosing the strategies that work best for them. My aim is never to teach children a trick to answer one question. I want them to develop a deeper understanding so they can apply their knowledge to unfamiliar problems with confidence.

The screenshot below is from one of this week's lessons, where we used a bar model alongside equivalent fractions and working backwards to solve a challenging SEAG-style question.

Understanding first. Speed comes later.

📚 P6 TRANSFER TEST AVAILABILITY

Over the past few weeks, I have received an abundance of enquiries regarding SEAG Transfer Test tuition for children entering Primary 6 this September.

Many parents have already secured their child's place ready for the new school year, and my remaining availability is now extremely limited.

Every year, I receive enquiries once September arrives, but by then many groups are already full. Additional spaces usually become available after my current Primary 7 pupils complete the Transfer Test in November, but these also tend to fill very quickly.

If you are considering Transfer Test preparation for your child, I would encourage you to get in touch sooner rather than later. Please contact me to arrange a free, no-obligation Zoom assessment to discuss your child's needs.

💪It's always a privilege to watch children grow in confidence. Sometimes it's not just the improvements in reading, writing or maths that matter most; it's hearing that homework time is no longer a battle and seeing a child begin to believe in their own abilities.💪

😎Thank you so much for your kind words and for trusting me with your daughter's learning journey.😎

#💥 3-Year Analysis On SEAG Scores 💥

Thank you to the thousands of parents who sent me their raw scores that allows me to analyse the scores and trends to help the parents coming through this year.

I know a lot of people are doing practice tests and keen to get a gauge on what raw score they should be aiming for and the answer is that it is impossible to say because we don’t know how difficult the test will be - but last year’s averages were 70% and a bit more palatable (to my mind).

General conclusions / my opinion:
📌 Firstly a lower average (compared to '23 and '24) in 2025 paper does of course suggest that the paper was more difficult compared to previously but based on personal experience at the time, I got the feeling that the papers were challenging but manageable and in that respect I think the tests did what they set out to achieve.

📌I have been vocal in the past about the fact that the averages in previous years were far too high because this sets people's expectations about what they need to achieve in practice tests to 'pass'. Very illogical but that is what happens, so an average of 70% sits much better with me (and hopefully everyone else too).

📌 An average closer to 70 percent makes far more sense. It reflects a balanced paper and allows the standardisation process to work properly. Too high and everyone is bunched at the top with no wiggle room.

📌 Having a very high average (in the past) does not let the people who are good at English or Maths shine through and silly mistakes can result in a much lower TSAS than expected in their strong area. Therefore a 70% average is balanced and allows people to shine.

This does not mean 'the scores were higher or lower in 2025'. The TSAS scores are exactly the same as previous years because they are standardised and based on the average and not actual scores.
