We are very saddened to announce the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Seamus O’Brien, at home in Kilmacurragh. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, further details will follow in the coming days.

⁉️Ever wondered why you see young trees tied to stakes or supports? Tying in trees is a crucial practice that helps them grow strong and upright. By providing stability, these ties protect saplings from strong winds and prevent leaning or snapping. It’s especially important during the early years, as it ensures healthy root development and sturdy trunks.
On the nursery this is one of our favourite jobs, as we get to inspect the trees and see them thriving. We will revisit the trees a number of times throughout the growing season to ensure the new growth is supported and hopefully promote robust growth.
Our ultimate aim is to grow a strong, healthy tree and encourage them to grow straight and tall with an upright growth habit. This should help to improve the aesthetic appeal of the tree but also ensures that it can maximize sunlight exposure for photosynthesis.
In summary, tying in trees offers enhanced stability, promotes upright growth, prevents damage, encourages root development, and increases survival rates, making it a valuable practice for tree care and management.
