🏟️ ALL ROADS LEAD TO THE AVIVA! 🏟️

All roads lead to the Aviva Stadium today, and we’re delighted that the Abbey will be very well represented!

Our very recent past pupil Adam McCann Gibbs makes his debut performance with UNC on the Aviva stage today – a fantastic achievement! 👏

We’re also delighted to have current pupil Dan McKernan involved after winning a Leadership Kick programme, earning him the opportunity to be part of today’s special occasion.

A brilliant day ahead for both boys and another proud moment for the Abbey community.

Best of luck to Adam and Dan, and safe travels to everyone heading to Dublin.

Enjoy the day! ☘️🏟️

There are really only two occasions when we gather as a school community in this way to celebrate our boys: today, as they begin their journey with us in Year 8, and seven years from now, when we come together again for their Year 14 Leavers’ Ceremony.

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming our Year 8 families through the doors of 77A Ashgrove Road, as they watched their sons take those first important steps on their Abbey journey.

It marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter, filled with opportunities, friendships, challenges and memories still to be made.

To our newest Abbey boys and their families — welcome. We look forward to sharing a very happy and positive seven-year journey with you.

Tomorrow is a BIG one! ❤️🖤🧡

Tomorrow morning, we are delighted to welcome 133 new Year 8 students through the doors of The Abbey!

We know there will be a whole range of emotions tonight — excitement, nerves, anticipation and maybe even a few butterflies. That’s completely normal.

But don’t worry —

Day One Induction… we’ve got you covered!

From the moment you arrive, you’ll meet your form class and form teacher, take part in a full day of fun activities, find your way around and, most importantly, start getting to know the people who will share this new chapter with you.

📍 Arrival: 9.00am
⏰ Finish: 3.00pm

‼️A reminder for parents: please do not enter the school at drop-off or collection. We ask that you are ready to collect your son at 3.00pm, as there are no school buses running tomorrow‼️

And to our 133 new Abbey boys…

You don’t need to have it all figured out tomorrow. Just walk through those doors and be yourself.

The person who becomes your best friend might be walking through them feeling exactly the same way.

Your best friend could already be here — you just haven’t met them yet. ❤️

We can’t wait to welcome you to The Abbey tomorrow morning.

Tomorrow a true Abbey legend is laid to rest.

Our whole school community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mr Pat Mooney. RIP

Over the past days we have read many messages from past pupils, former colleagues and current members of staff and it is clear that everyone held Pat in the highest of esteem. He had a profound influence on all those that he taught and all those that he worked with. His postive affirming manner and his unique love for the Abbey extended across generations.

Pat's classroom was a place of wonder and magic as he was able to make the written word come alive in a way that left students spellbound.

This enthusiasm also spread outside the classroom. His great love of drama, golf, Scoil Drámaíocht and GAA meant that many more Abbey students benefitted from his infectious passion for sport and the Arts. Never to be forgotten. One of a kind. Incomparable.

We extend our sincere condolences to Pat's sister, Eileen and his many friends at this very sad time.

❤️
