Former Pupil Offers Experience to St. Louis Students
(November 2012)

St. Louis Grammar School, Kilkeel takes great pride in the achievements of its past pupils. Such is the great bond between the school and its past pupils that often when students are asked to share their experiences with the current students, there is no shortage of volunteers.

Top achieving past pupil, Laura McGrath is the latest former St. Louis student to have returned to St. Louis to offer advice to the current Year 13 students.
Laura is an excellent role model for St. Louis students as she recently left St. Louis with top grades, obtaining 3A*’s and 1 A grade in her A-Level examinations,

After graduating from St. Louis, Laura has undertaken to study Law at Trinity College, Dublin. Laura gave a helpful insight to her life at university and how it differs from school life. She also pointed out the excellent role St. Louis had played in preparing her for undergraduate studies. Laura also reminisced about her own time during her A levels, her approach to her studies and the examinations. Her advice included approaches to time management, repeating examinations, pre-exam nerves and settling rewards.

Laura was by no means ‘solely tied’ to her studies. Over her years at St. Louis Laura engaged in a variety of extra curricular activities organized by the school and activities outside of the school. Activities such as Music and Irish Dancing provided Laura with an excellent life-work balance with contributed well to her overall academic success.

St. Louis Principal, Mr. Kevin Martin, thanked Laura for taking the time out from her studies at Trinity College to share her experiences with the current Year 13. He concluded by wishing Laura every success in her studies and her future career path.

St. Louis ‘Sisters’ Star for Down.
(March 2010)

It is always a great honour to play for your county at any sport and at any level. For two St. Louis Grammar School students this honour is felt with great pride in both in school and even more so, at home. Colleen Magee and her younger sister, Kerrieanne, have certainly brought great honour to their family and club colleagues in Rostrevor. However, for these two sisters to be playing senior Gaelic football for Down Senior Ladies Gaelic Football team whilst still at school, is a marvellous achievement. The Down Senior Ladies squad are currently playing in the tough All-Ireland Ladies Senior League, Division Two, along with Armagh, Clare, Donegal, Kildare, Meath, Sligo and Tipperary.

Currently studying for their respective A2 and GCSE examinations, both girls have displayed great determination in raising their performances to play the high level of football they are currently playing. PE Teachers at St. Louis, Mr. Niall McAleenan and Mr. Pauric Staunton are delighted with the progress the girls are making both on the Gaelic football fields, and in the classroom. Both girls are currently studying PE and harbor ambitions to pursue careers in the sporting world. Down certainly hope they have found two more gems to rank along side the Downey’s, and other siblings, who have excelled in the Down colours.

With examinations looming over the horizon, the talented sisters will have the difficult job of balancing their county and club commitments with the demands of their studies. However, these girls know how to balance such commitments and if they can take their dedication shown of the football field into their examination preparations, academic success will await them later in the year.
