When the ‘May Day’ comes in when you respond and help, that’s the role and today, two of our skippers did just that.
Two of our RIBs were off Gulland island, when a DSC / mayday relay on the VHF alerted our skippers to a Mayday for 6 swimmers being washed out to sea off mother Ivy’s bay.
Thomas and Chloe were first on scene in ‘Illuminate’ and ‘Savannah’ 2 of our 10 meters vessels.
Thomas was able to recover 2 casualties, while Harlyn lifeguards recovered another and brought them to safety on the Padstow life boat slipway.
Chloe and went in search of the 3 other casualties being washed out to sea. She located 2 of them on the rocks where she stood by as the coast guard helicopter was inbound and Padstow sea life safaris RIB found the final swimmer being washed around towards Trevose head.
Undoubtedly the quick thinking member of the public who heard the shouts for help and everyone involved saved lives today.
A huge shout out to Padstow Coastguard, RNLI, PSL and my team of skippers, especially Thomas and Chloe today, who acted swiftly and professional to help facilitate the rescues and a massive shout out to passengers, who understood the severity of the situation and let the team do there thing. They will certainly have a good story to tell when they get home !
