💷 Got a spare room?
It could be earning you up to £7,500 a year tax-free through the UK's Rent a Room Scheme while helping international students experience life in Cornwall.
As a Babel Fish host family, you'll welcome students from around the world into your home, help them practise their English, and become a memorable part of their UK experience.
Many of our hosts tell us the extra income makes a real difference. Others love the cultural exchange, the friendships, and hearing about life in different countries.
Most enjoy both.
✔ Tax-free earnings up to the Rent a Room threshold
✔ Flexible hosting opportunities throughout the year
✔ Full support from the Babel Fish team
✔ Meet people from across Europe and beyond
Whether you're a family, a couple, or living on your own, we'd love to hear from you.

We're looking for welcoming host families in Newquay and the surrounding area to join the Babel Fish community.
Every year, students from across Europe and beyond travel to Cornwall to improve their English, experience British culture, and make memories that last a lifetime. As a host, you'll play a vital role in that journey.
You can host trips that last a few days, or longer stays - for juniors and/or adults - and earn tax-free money using your spare room(s).
✅ Sign up before the end of June and receive a £50 bonus for your first completed hosting placement.
Many of our students return year after year because of the warmth and hospitality they experience with our hosts. Our homestay programme is one of the things that makes Babel Fish special.

POV: you’ve never seen the sea before 🌊
Then suddenly you’re in Cornwall with your friends, hearing the waves from your classroom and walking to the beach after lessons.
This week, we’re welcoming a brilliant short-stay group from the Czech Republic to Babel Fish… and for some students, it’s their very first time seeing the ocean. 💙
That’s what makes study travel so special. It’s not just English. It’s new places, new experiences, and memories that stay with you for life.

Two photos. Seven years apart.
In 2018, Pablo arrived in Newquay as an 18-year-old, fresh out of school, here for four weeks to improve his English.
Like so many of our students, he came for the language - but left with something much bigger: a passion for guitar (thanks in part to jamming with Alex); for surfing and fond memories of Newquay.
This weekend, he came back - now a qualified doctor, about to begin his career as a GP - bringing his girlfriend to show her the place that meant so much: even tracking down a specific bench on the coastal path he remembered from years ago.
And a few more things stayed with him too: a wave tattoo from his first visit… and a new one added this time round (💪 Dan ).
This is what we mean when we say the experience goes beyond the classroom.
It’s never just about learning English.
It’s about the people you meet, the things you discover, and the version of yourself you become along the way.
- it was great to see you.

Coming to Babel Fish this season?
Here's five excellent activities to get the most out of Newquay - no surfboard required 👇(Keep swiping for more!)
1. Street art safari with MUQY
Take the free walking trail through the town centre and uncover bold, large-scale murals celebrating Newquay’s heritage and identity. It’s a slower way to explore - and you’ll see details most visitors miss. Follow for the route.
2. Coasteering with a view
Scramble, climb and leap your way along the coastline with . Think hidden coves, cliff jumps, and a proper sense of adventure.
3. Reset at Saunassa Nordic Spa
Heat, cold, repeat. Saunas, cold plunges, yoga and community events - the perfect way to recharge after class or a day exploring. You’ll leave feeling human again (and probably with a few new local connections too). We love 🔥🩵
4. A proper Cornish cream tea
It had to be included. Head to and do it right: jam first, then clotted cream.
5. Sunset at Fistral Beach
End at least one day here. Something cold in hand, watching the light drop over the Atlantic. Simple, but hard to beat.
Come for the English course. Stay for everything else: Newquay is more than just a place to study.
