7th at 100km - what an epic it became.
Homework was done, training was on point and the head felt in the right space to have a strong day. After sharing some miles with and I dropped my poles between some boulders and lost touch on the descent of Moel Siabod. Working hard to close the gap I never quite made it back to the group.
We want everything to be controlled, smooth sailing and ‘to plan’ in races, but it’s often the open ended possibilities and unexpected difficulties that come our way within 100 kilometres of true mountain trails that make ultras worth running. This time around, I was humbled by the weather. Uncontrollably shaking, numb hands trying to pile on the layers, I was ready to call it a day on Moel Hebog. When it’s one of those days and you make it through, just finishing the race feels like a success.
There’s a lot of positives to take from this one and I’ll be back to see what I can do in the years to come.
Diolch yn fawr Eryri.
Huge thank you to all the volunteers and the team behind the event, to my coach for guiding me through a reasonably tight turnaround between three races, and as always a lot of gratitude to my family for supporting on race day, as well as day to day with my running escapades.

There’s no getting round the fact that Eryri is a special place to venture around. Over the last month and several recce trips I’ve been fortunate to be hit with all the seasons and everything the mountains could throw at me. A few weeks to go until 100km. Pleased to see a little extra sting in the tail has been added on over this last week making the final stages of the race a bit spicier with the addition of Nantlle ridge and Moel Hebog. Let’s see how the legs feel about that come race day.

Hey Harry! So what’s next? How does 100km at and 100 miles at sound?
I’ve been lucky to return to the UTMB finals many times over the years. With some good and very rough days out there. But the hunger to return for the ‘BIG Lap’ is back this year.
It’s crazy to think that 2019 was my first time on the lap and the last time I’ve completed the full loop after having to drop at Trient in 2022. I feel like there’s some self exploration and growth to come over these next few months to do it justice.
Very excited to spend plenty of long days in Eryri during the mountain block to come ⛰️
Thanks to and for the support in the journey.

Chianti Ultra Trail 120, 12th overall, 10th male.
I came into with relative confidence in my fitness and freshness for a long 120km on the trails. Training had flowed well with a typical bit of winter illness here and there, but overall steady and consistent building from 50 miler in January.
With WSER golden tickets on the line for the top spots there was a level of rushed intensity that I’ve not experienced as much with an early season race before. After taking a hard fall last year whilst racing the 75km, this year I was determined to race with patience and play the long game.
So I hung back early on and enjoyed the frosty trails, still cold air and crystal clear starry skies. Runners started coming back sooner than I expected, which gave me confidence in the my pacing as I started picking my way back towards the top 10.
The drydusty trails, were a stark contrast to last years muddy and wet course. I loved it.
With the front end of the women’s race catching up to me in those closing miles, it was great to get a ringside view of the battle between and as they powered over the final moments of the race.
Huge thanks to Apostolos and Team Greece for the excellent crewing in the first half of the race.
Next up it’s time for plenty of miles in Eryri in the lead up to in May and UTMB at the end of August 🏔️
Huge thanks to sponsors , and for supporting the journey. And of course coach for a solid winters training behind me.

Time to go long again tomorrow. 120km of rolling, winding trails through the hills of . Last year the 75km didn’t go to plan taking a hard tumble face first at 25km. This year the goal is to stay upright, anything after that is a win 😆

Training and keeping the head down has been the focus over the last month or so. Things turned around well after ARC, training has been consistent and steady, many miles and hills have been run and the sneaking change in seasons has been welcome over this last week or so, with some drier and sunnier training days banked. Not long to test where the body is at once again lining up for 120 this weekend 👌

—-> slide 3 😆 Efficiently move over the terrain, dance from rock to rock, be at one with the trail…or NOT! Anyone else take a few dives ?
Thankfully this one was more of a slow awkward slip and drop with no where to go, a quick moan and pat down on back on my way chasing .jung

Week 3/52, a week with lot of focus towards . Getting on top of race prep and ticking over training while leaving space mentally and physically for what was to come.
- 🤝 excited to get this off the ground, great gear and a brand with good values
- When in Cornwall, post-race pasty (vegan curry). My only regret was not getting two, or three…
- The aftermath of Arc on the MTL Adapt
- Loved the wild weather and power of these trails. They left a big impact, more than I imagined, thank you Cornwall

Racing in January on the Cornish coast packed a hefty punch into 50 miles. A wild and immersed experience with the landscape, powerful waves and sea spray soaking you through, before a misjudged step left you face planting through the muddy soup beneath you.
I wanted more out of myself on the day, but there’s no excuse other than more hard work needed to get there. Training moves on 📈
Thanks to everyone involved in keeping all the runners sliding their way around the coast, and to and 📸 for capturing the adventure.
lives up to its name. Congratulations to all runners across the distances that tackled the trails on the weekend.

Week 2/52, finding myself with another race closing in fast. I feel calm, content and happy with where fitness is at. There’ve been a few spanners thrown in to plans in the background, but finding a way through with those who matter most has left me confident for what’s ahead.
- Last long run in the build, 4 hours of soggy stepping in Cwmcarn
- Snow day in the Beacons
- The grow project: Lion’s Mane 🦁🍄 thanks
- Fforest Fawr 👌
- Strength has built nicely back up to some of my best lifts in a while, keeping the body resilient for a big year ahead
