The most exciting phrase to hear in Science … is not ‘Eureka!’ (‘I found it!’), but ‘That’s funny…’. Based in mid-Cornwall.

GCSEs are upon us and I’m glad to say that my students have all had positive experiences so far, despite their nerves to begin with.
They are realising they do know stuff!
So proud of them all for the hard work they have been consistently putting in over the past few months, and glad to see them learning how this pays off in spades!
That being said, I hope they, and all students taking GCSEs at the moment, realise that exam grades are not a measure of all that a person is - each one of you is worth such a lot more than just your grades!
I love every one of my students - I have known them only a short while but have gotten to know their kindness, sense of humour, compassion, joy in small things, excellence in sport or music, amongst other strengths.
Exam grades will be the icing on top of this brilliant job they have done navigating today’s complicated world and remaining absolutely fabulous people, as well as the fantastic role all their parents have played in this.
Grades apart they all have much to be proud of already and I wish them all a happy and bright future 😊

Eli testing substances with indicator-a few surprises and a couple that just didn’t work as they ‘should’ - Eli realises this is the essence of Science, to then ask ‘so why?…’
Sometimes this is when the best learning occurs!

Eli investigating cooling curves - accurately reading his thermometer by getting on a level with it and working safely - great job!

Great work from Eli today; measuring energy in foods today by burning them and heating water.
Lots of measuring, safety precautions, use of equipment (with adaptations for working in the home).
Rough Science perhaps, but so valuable in terms of making it enjoyable and memorable!
