⚡️ COWES THUNDER BUSY ONCE AGAIN! ⚡️
This week, our first Hampshire Girls Youth League fixture was postponed due to the Wi******er City tournament, meaning our first league fixture will now be Saturday away to Wi******er City Swans. The girls are really looking forward to getting their league campaign underway! 🩵⚽️
With a free weekend, we decided to make the most of the fantastic connections the club and the girls are continuing to build through the Sunday mixed league. We welcomed two Gurnard sides and a Sandown team to The Isle of Wight Community Club - Cowes for a little round-robin friendly tournament.
All four teams represented themselves brilliantly and it was a fantastic morning of football at a brilliant facility. There was a real community feel throughout, with everyone helping each other, working together and, most importantly, enjoying their football. 👏
For Cowes Thunder, it was another really positive morning, with some great goals and some amazing defensive displays.
🆚 Sandown
First up was Sandown, who came out of the blocks very quickly, just as they did in our previous friendly. This time, they made that energy count, scoring two quick-fire goals. In tournament football, those early goals can be difficult to respond to, but the girls continued to work hard and compete.
🆚 Gurnard Gladiators
A much-improved performance followed against the Gladiators, with the girls really beginning to find their rhythm.
Elsie P continued her fantastic goalscoring streak, making it three goals in three games, while Skylar also found the net after burying a really good chance following a long goal kick from Elsie. ⚽️
🆚 Gurnard Sharks
Our final game against the Sharks was another tough contest, with both teams producing some superb defensive football. Cowes created plenty of attacking threats while also showing great determination to defend their own goal, making for another really competitive game.
Overall, a really, really good morning of football. The girls continue to develop, learn and build relationships with teams both on and off the island, and days like this are exactly what grassroots football should be about. 🩵
🏆 COWES THUNDER PLAYER OF THE WEEK – ELSIE
This week’s Player of the Week went to Elsie, selected by James, our designated goalkeeper coach.
James worked with Elsie throughout the morning across a series of goalkeeper activities, and she performed brilliantly. She was fantastic throughout the tournament and capped off her morning with some amazing saves along the way. 🧤👏
A huge well done to Elsie and to all of the Cowes Thunder girls for another brilliant morning!
