Water Safety
Water safety is an essential life skill as the island’s stunning coastline, tidal rivers, and popular beaches are a constant backdrop to daily life. While the sea offers endless opportunities for fun and exploration, it also presents unique hazards like strong undercurrents, rapidly shifting tides, and sudden drops in water depth. It is important to understand the meaning of beach warning flags, and never using inflatables in open water where offshore winds can quickly sweep them out to sea. Additionally, teaching children the "Float to Live" technique—leaning back, extending arms and legs, and gently moving them to stay afloat if caught in a current—is a crucial, life-saving habit for anyone.
