A major new study published this week confirms the very real benefits of strength training for adults over 40 (in other words, you and me!).
Researchers identified a clear “sweet spot”: people who consistently completed 90–120 minutes of strength training per week had a 13% lower risk of premature death, alongside significant benefits for cardiovascular and neurological health.
Since making strength work a regular part of my life, I feel stronger, more resilient, and more confident in what my body can do. I notice it in my yoga practice, but also in everyday life — carrying shopping, climbing stairs, lifting things with ease, and feeling more capable in my body.
Now, if the words “strength training” make you think of gyms, heavy weights, or pushing yourself to extremes, please don’t worry. My Yoga With Weights classes are not about that.
Strength can be built in simple, mindful and accessible ways. It’s not about bodybuilding or bulking up. It’s about developing the strength that helps you move through life with greater confidence, stability and freedom.
