On Sunday, 22nd March, the club hosted a Shotokan of England Karate Union (SEKU) all grade course and grading. The occasion attracted many students from different SEKU clubs across the mainland, who travelled over to participate in the course.
Following the warm-up, the class was divided into two groups according to grade. Students holding 4th kyu and higher focused on practising the kata Tekki-Shodan, while those in the lower kyu grades worked through a variety of kumite drills.
The first students to take their grading were Redford Bonner from Newport club and Adrien Burnard from Lovedean. Both delivered outstanding performances and were successful in attaining their Sho-dan grade.
Congratulations are also due to all other club students who successfully passed their respective kyu gradings. Special recognition goes to Duarte Bispo, who was awarded the best grader trophy for his efforts.

On Sunday, 22nd February, eleven members of the Newport club travelled to Portsmouth to participate in the Shotokan of England Karate Union (S.E.K.U.) 4th kyu and above course. It was well attended by students from various SEKU clubs.
The training covered several important elements, including self-defence applications, Kata Kanka-Dia, as well as Jiyu-Ippon and Jiyu-Kumite. It also gives the opportunity to pair up with students from other clubs, which provided valuable experience and a chance to learn from different perspectives.
Attendance at these courses is highly recommended for students who are preparing for their black belt examinations. Participating in such events supports their progression and helps them gain the skills and experience necessary for success.
The next S.E.K.U. course will be an all-grade session and club kyu grading on 22nd March at Newport, Isle of Wight.
More details to follow.

Cannot believe that today marks four years since Sensei Malc passed away. His presence and influence are still very much alive within the dojo, reminding us of the legacy he left behind. As we celebrate the end of another year spare a thought for the family and friends that are no longer with us.
Wishing everyone a safe and healthy new year.
Back in the Dojo on Tuesday 6th where the journey continues 🤜👊🤛
