We had a wonderful weekend with our Chamber Orchestra. This is the first time Gwent has had an orchestra since 2019. We're so excited to see where this ensemble ends up! A massive thank you to our tutors and students for a wonderful weekend.

Over the summer some members for our community folk group had the honour of representing wales (for the first time in history) and the Fleadh world finals in Belfast.

Our group had previously won the all Britain heats and earned them self a spot at the prestigious finals.

Musical director Scott Mckeon said “ I could not be any more proud of this group of musicians and what they’ve achieved. They took everything in their stride and dealt with the occasion like pros. Many of the group were completely new to Celtic music two years ago and here they are performing on the international stage”.

The competition took place at the renowned Water Front theatre with a 2,500 capacity audience. Our group didn’t place but played an absolute blinder with exceptional feedback and a HUGE applause when the compère mentioned we were the first ever Welsh group to reach the finals.

We’d like to congratulate our folk group on this incredible achievement and an extra mention to our tutors Scott, Emma and Katrina who do such a great job every Tuesday evening here at Gwent Music HQ.

Dros yr haf, cafodd rhai aelodau o’n grŵp gwerin cymunedol yr anrhydedd o gynrychioli Cymru (am y tro cyntaf mewn hanes) a rowndiau terfynol y byd yn Fleadh ym Melfast.

Roedd ein grŵp wedi ennill rowndiau terfynol Prydain gyfan o’r blaen ac wedi ennill lle iddyn nhw eu hunain yn y rowndiau terfynol mawreddog.

Dywedodd y cyfarwyddwr cerdd Scott Mckeon “Ni allwn fod yn fwy balch o’r grŵp hwn o gerddorion a’r hyn maen nhw wedi’i gyflawni. Fe wnaethon nhw gymryd popeth yn eu cam ac ymdrin â’r achlysur fel gweithwyr proffesiynol. Roedd llawer o’r grŵp yn gwbl newydd i gerddoriaeth Geltaidd ddwy flynedd yn ôl ac dyma nhw’n perfformio ar y llwyfan rhyngwladol”.

Cynhaliwyd y gystadleuaeth yn theatr enwog Water Front gyda chynulleidfa o 2,500 o bobl. Ni lwyddodd ein grŵp i gyrraedd y lleoedd gorau ond chwaraeodd yn berffaith gyda adborth eithriadol a chymeradwyaeth ENFAWR pan soniodd y cyflwynydd mai ni oedd y grŵp cyntaf erioed o Gymru i gyrraedd y rowndiau terfynol.

Hoffem longyfarch ein grŵp gwerin ar y cyflawniad anhygoel hwn a sôn ychwanegol am ein tiwtoriaid Scott, Emma a Katrina sy’n gwneud gwaith mor wych bob nos Fawrth yma ym Mhencadlys Cerddoriaeth Gwent.

We are still on our summer break but next Thursday we are back rehearsing for our annual concert on 19th September, but we are still looking for new members to join us, come along and sit in one of our rehearsals and see if it’s for you, we meet Monday and Thursday evening from 19:30 to 21:00 at the Gwent Music HQ, Malpas Court primary school, NP20 6NS, you will be given a warm welcome 🎶🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Last Friday Gwent Music students took part in the National Gwasanaeth Cerdd Cenedlaethol Cymru/National Music Service Wales Regional Choir's performance at Brangwyn Hall as part of National Youth Arts Wales / Celfyddydau Cenedlaethol Ieuenctid Cymru Your Sound of Summer Tour where the National Youth Choir of Wales were performing. It was an incredible night a big thank you to everyone who took part!
Ddydd Gwener diwethaf, cymerodd myfyrwyr Gwent Music ran yng nghyngerdd Côr Rhanbarthol Gwasanaeth Cerdd Cenedlaethol Cymru yn Neuadd Brangwyn. Roedd hyn yn rhan o daith 'Your Sound of Summer' gan Celfyddydau Cenedlaethol Ieuenctid Cymru, lle roedd Côr Ieuenctid Cenedlaethol Cymru yn perfformio. Roedd yn noson wych – diolch yn fawr i bawb a gymerodd ran!
