🥋 Black Belt Success at Our 41st Anniversary Course! 🥋
Massive congratulations to Alex Moore, who earned his 1st Dan Black Belt after 11 years of dedicated training with Isle of Wight Karate & Martial Arts Academy. Alex proudly becomes a third-generation black belt, following his grandad, mum, and uncle — an incredible family legacy!

Also successful was Aidan Chessell, who achieved his 2nd Dan Black Belt. Aidan began training with us at just 6 years old and has shown true perseverance and spirit over the years to reach this milestone.
The gradings were conducted by two highly respected independent examiners — Kevin Slaney 7th Dan and Phil Owen 7th Dan, visiting instructors, both of whom also led sessions at our 41st Anniversary Course held this weekend. We’re honoured to have had them share their experience and uphold the standard of our academy.

We wish Alex and Aidan every success in the next chapter of their karate journeys — your hard work and commitment are a credit to you.

🥋 Congratulations to Bodi Miller – 1st Dan Black Belt! 🥋
A huge well done to Bodi Miller, aged 16, who has officially received his 1st Dan Black Belt diploma, following his successful grading in October 2024.

Bodi has been training with the Isle of Wight Karate & Martial Arts Academy since the age of 6, showing years of commitment, focus, and determination.

We’re proud to announce that Bodi is the 73rd student to achieve black belt with our club since we began in 1990 — a fantastic milestone!

We wish him every success as he continues his martial arts journey — remember, the black belt is just the beginning 👊

Filip’s Karate Journey – A Year of Hard Work and Big Progress!
What a year it’s been for Filip! At just 8 years old, he has shown incredible dedication, focus, and passion for his karate—especially in his kata. Since starting with Isle of Wight Karate 12 months ago, he has worked tirelessly to improve, and his progress has been amazing to watch!
At the start of this year, Filip was still getting to grips with the basics—learning how to control his stances, perfect his hand positions, and add more power to his movements. Even when things were tricky, he never gave up. He kept practising in the dojo and at home, asking sensei questions and pushing himself to get better every single week.
Filip’s confidence has grown, and he is now an entire red bet.
Now, Filip is performing his katas with incredible focus and precision. He’s not just going through the motions—he’s putting real intent and energy into every move.
We are so proud of how far Filip has come, and we can’t wait to see what the next year brings for him!
Keep up the hard work, Filip—you’re an inspiration to all the young karateka and people out there! 👊💥

Dotty’s Karate Journey:
Meet Dotty, one of our newest students. Five weeks ago, she entered the dojo and told you about her early experience.
Dotty talks about why she keeps coming, what she is learning, and how fun our classes are.

One of the most inspiring parts of Dotty’s story is how she enjoys all the [specific type of moves] and even demonstrates them.
