Does your child have a thirst for finding things out? There's something for everyone this month! And, interests run for the whole month, a week, a day or 40 days... (Lent!). The internet is like a shop full of free learning, if you know where to look! There's sport (The Rugby Six Nations), religious celebrations aplenty (including Chinese New Year), history (e.g. Rosa Parks, Abraham Lincoln), science (all the way from Wales to the World Wide Web) and lots of P.S.H.E. opportunities too! (That's an educational acronym for Personal, Social, Health and Emotional Education. 😊

I've recently completed a course on Children's Mental Health. I thought I would create a brief summary of the main points as an infographic.

As the popularity of energy drinks soars, a concerning trend has emerged: an increasing number of children are consuming these beverages. Packed with high levels of caffeine, sugar, and other stimulants, energy drinks pose significant dangers to developing bodies. Pediatricians warn that the excessive intake of these beverages can lead to adverse health effects, including sleep disturbances, increased heart rate, and potential long-term impacts on cognitive development. Moreover, the high sugar content contributes to obesity and dental problems. Parents and educators alike are urged to be vigilant and educate children on the risks associated with energy drink consumption to safeguard their well-being.

What an amazing man! I love reading his books myself. This was a really interesting article, from the BBC, highlighting the importance of reading in early years and the impact on children's vocabulary and academic achievement.

According to Ofcom, 69% of under-18s use a smartphone as their main method of going online. Additionally, 49% of children use them for online gaming – putting smartphones only behind consoles (59%) as the device of choice for playing games on. Most people won’t require such statistical evidence, however, to acknowledge the huge importance of phones to young people.

Given that Santa’s recent visit is likely to have bestowed smartphones on an even greater number of young people, it’s a particularly opportune moment to ensure that children are able to use their handsets responsibly – and, above all, safely. From passcodes to parental controls, and from screen time to scams, our guide has the essential advice.
