Donegal was again the inspiration for my brand new painting, Eden - specifically a handsome couple of greys I met near Rossbeg, which is itself next to a place you may or may not know called Eden.

Similar to Jessie the pony's relationship to Donegal Dream, these two provided the starting point for Eden, but they weren't actually bathing in a coastal inlet when I met them! Are they simply cooling off from one of Ireland's hottest summer days, or they are in another Eden, a world away, waiting to welcome the souls of other horses? Or is it both?

One of the most anticipated meetings of the year - what used to be known simply as "July Week" but is now more grandly referred to as the "July Festival" - is almost upon us.
We have three days at the beautiful July Course at Newmarket, so I'm including three faces from the Gallery, each with a connection to the racecourse. The great Oasis Dream (who became a leading stallion) won the feature race of the week, the July Cup, back in 2003. Another champion who won at Newmarket is the wonderful Ouija Board. Completing the trio is the mystery character, Finding His Feet, who modelled for me as a foal, and whose mother was Crystal Capella, a former winner of The Princess of Wales Stakes at the July meeting.

Happy Birthday to the wonderful Rudy, now living another version of his best life (in the same place as his racing days, but with just a slightly different routine, I think it'd be fair to say!). Rudy is truly loved, understood and cared for by the best person he could wish for. A lucky boy, and it has been a real pleasure getting to know him and his nearest & dearest.

Still going strong at the age of 23, the ridiculously handsome Big Buck's needs no introduction to followers of the jumps. However, it's worth remembering here his extraordinary sequence of 18 consecutive wins, including a record 4 Stayers' (World) Hurdle victories at Cheltenham.
