A huge thank you to all of our amazing nursery families, the people of Swadlincote, our wonderful volunteers, local businesses who donated, and everyone who came along to support our Charity Event for Heart Link.

We are completely blown away by your kindness and generosity. The smiles, laughter, and community spirit throughout the day made it so special, and thanks to every single one of you, we've raised an absolutely AMAZING total so far... and we're still counting! 🤩

Every raffle ticket bought, cake enjoyed, game played, and donation made will help support the incredible work that Heart Link does for children and families.

At Bramble Wood Day Nursery , we're coming together to support the incredible charity Heart Link, who provided invaluable care and support to a family in our nursery community, during an incredibly difficult time.
That's why we are joining with our other two sisters setting's Playful Roots and Blossom Wood Preschool, to raise money, to make a difference!

🐦🌿 Can you make a bird feeder? 🌿🐦

Today our toddlers and preschool children got busy making their very own bird feeders! 🐦💚

Using colourful pipe cleaners and cereal hoops, the children carefully threaded the hoops onto the pipe cleaners before twisting and shaping them into bird feeders. A simple activity with so many opportunities for learning!

We talked all out the birds, if they'd like treats, and why we need to put bird feed out 🌱

✨This activitiy develops :

🌿 Physical Development – Threading the cereal hoops onto the pipe cleaners supported fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, finger strength and developing control.
🌿 Mathematics – Children explored counting, quantity, patterns, position and comparing as they added and arranged the cereal hoops.
🌿 Communication & Language – We encouraged children to talk about what they were making, explain their ideas and listen to instructions and questions.
🌿 Understanding the World – The activity encouraged an interest in birds, nature and the world around us. We can extend this by watching to see which birds visit our feeders and talking about what they need to survive.
🌿 Expressive Arts & Design – Children had the freedom to experiment with colour, shape and how they wanted their bird feeder to look.
🌿 Personal, Social & Emotional Development – Children developed confidence, independence and perseverance as they worked out how to thread, twist and shape their feeders.

For our toddlers, this provides wonderful opportunities to develop the emerging skills expected through the EYFS, particularly fine motor skills, communication and exploring the world around them.

For our preschool children, we can build on these skills by encouraging more independent problem-solving, counting, predicting, comparing and explaining their thinking.

And the best part? Our creations can now go outside and help feed the birds! 🐦🌳💚

🌸 L i t t l e B a k e r s 🌸

Today our children explored a playdough baking invitation to play, using rolling pins, cutters, weighing scales, cupcake cases and lots of imagination!
In preperation for our real 'baking day' this week! 🍰

As they rolled, pressed, shaped and decorated their playdough, the children were developing so many important skills through purposeful, hands-on play.

🧁 This activity develops :

✨️ Physical Development – strengthening hands and fingers, developing hand-eye coordination and practising controlled movements.
✨️Mathematics – exploring weight, size, quantity and comparison through the use of scales and discussions such as “Which is heavier?”, “Do we need more?” and “How many cakes have you made?”
✨️ Communication & Language – sharing ideas, developing vocabulary and engaging in conversations around baking and what they were creating.
✨️Expressive Arts & Design – using imagination and creativity.
✨️Understanding the World – making connections with familiar experiences such as baking and exploring how different tools are used.

Most importantly… the children were having FUN while learning! 💕🧁

🌻 S u n f l o w e r P l a y d o u g h 🌻

Our children have been exploring sunflowers through playdough, using their creativity to make their very own bright and beautiful flowers! 🌻💛

The children rolled, squeezed, pinched and shaped the playdough, adding sunflower seeds to create the centres of their flowers.
They also used loose parts and tools to explore different textures and develop their design!

🌱 This activity develops:

✨ Physical Development – strengthening fine motor skills and hand muscles through rolling, squeezing and manipulating playdough.
✨ Expressive Arts & Design – encouraging creativity, imagination and making choices about their creations.
✨ Understanding the World – exploring sunflowers, seeds and the natural world around us.
✨ Mathematics – noticing shapes, patterns, size and quantity as the children created their flowers.
✨ Communication & Language – talking about sunflowers, describing what they were making and sharing ideas with others.

A lovely hands-on, open-ended activity combining creativity, nature and learning through play! 🌻🌱💛

We have very limited spaces available from September in our Baby, Toddler and Preschool rooms, and these are filling very quickly.

🚜 Big Marks Through Play! 🚜

Today our little learners had so much fun exploring paint in a new way... by using toy vehicles and rollers to create colourful patterns and tracks across the paper! 🎨

This simple activity based on the children's interests, encouraged children to experiment, investigate and express their creativity while developing so many important skills, including:
✨ Fine and gross motor skills
✨ Hand-eye coordination
✨ Creativity and imagination
✨ Cause and effect
✨ Colour recognition
✨ Early mark-making and pre-writing skills
✨ Language development as we talked about the patterns, colours and vehicle tracks we could see.

There were lots of smiles, curiosity and wonderful conversations as the children explored their own unique creations.

Learning really is at its best when it's hands-on, messy and full of fun! 💚🍃
