🦌🦉🦦IT'S NATIONAL ZOO AWARENESS DAY 🦊🦡🐾

Today is about raising awareness that the role zoos and wildlife centres play, through conservation, education, research, to the survival of threatened species.

At the British Wildlife Centre, we’re passionate about bringing you closer to some of Britain’s most fascinating native wildlife. With over 40 different species that we care for at the centre— from curious red squirrels and playful otters to majestic red deer and elusive wildcats 🦌

Every visit helps us continue our work to educate, inspire and encourage a deeper understanding of the wildlife that we share our island with!

Look at Kitsune's beautiful cubs all grown up! 🦊🧡

Thanks to keeper Shannon, for these lovely pictures 📸

Kitsune's cubs were born early spring this year, and while we don't yet know how many are boys and girls we would love to know any name suggestions for the beautiful cubs. Now if you know our keeper team, we love a good pun or theme 🦊

Remember our Polecat kits we posted a few months ago? Well, they have grown up quickly and causing alot of mischief! Mum, Amber has done a fantastic job raising her first litter here at the centre and has been a very protective mum of her little ones.

Here at the centre, we are a member of the polecat studbook. With our successful breeding program we are able to supply polecats for a managed release program to safe sites in southern England, contributing to the comeback of these masked mustelids across Britain.

Have you managed to spot them yet? We believe mum and dad (Amber and Cannon) have succesfully had 10 healthy kits!

Before this heat wave, we released another 15 Harvest Mice on to our nature reserve! Being incredibly active climbers, our brambles, long grasses, and reed beds make the perfect home for these tiny British mammals. As you can see, our blackberries are coming along nicely and will make the perfect snack for these little ones come the autumn! 🍂🫐

☀️💧 Heatwave reminder for our wildlife! 💧☀️

With the extreme hot weather this week, our wildlife will be struggling to find fresh water sources. If you can, please don’t forget to put out a shallow dish of water in your garden, dustbin lids or plant trays can make a perfect bowl for our animals to cool off this week– it can make a huge difference! 🐦🦔🦊

As you can see Blossom, our cheeky badger, is enjoying a little bath and cooling off 🦡 — a perfect example of just how important water is during hot spells!

Let’s all do our bit to help keep our wildlife safe and hydrated 💚
