π OCEAN WEEK πͺΈ
This week, our children have been celebrating Ocean Week, learning all about the amazing creatures that live beneath our waves and why it is so important to care for our oceans.
Through stories, creative activities, sensory play, and discussions, the children have been exploring the wonderful underwater world, from colourful fish and playful dolphins to sea turtles and majestic whales. They have been fascinated to discover how many different animals call our oceans home!
As part of our learning, we have also been talking about how we can help protect marine life. The children have been learning simple but important ways to care for our environment, including recycling, reducing waste, reusing materials where possible, and making sure litter is disposed of responsibly.
Helping children develop an understanding of the natural world encourages kindness, responsibility, and respect for all living things. By learning about our oceans and the creatures that depend on them, we hope to inspire our little learners to become future caretakers of our planet.
Well done to all our children for their enthusiasm, curiosity, and wonderful ideas throughout Ocean Week! ππ

This week our very own baby caterpillars arrived! π
We can't wait to watch them grow and transform into beautiful butterflies. This exciting experience gives the children a unique opportunity to observe the butterfly life cycle firsthand, from caterpillar to chrysalis and finally to butterflies.
As they watch the changes each day, the children will learn about growth, change, and the natural world. They will develop their observation skills by noticing differences in size, movement, and behaviour, and they'll be encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, and discuss what they see.
Caring for the caterpillars also helps children develop a sense of responsibility, empathy, and respect for living things. Exploring nature in this hands-on way supports curiosity, scientific thinking, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
We are looking forward to sharing this amazing journey with the children and celebrating the day our butterflies are ready to spread their wings! π¦β¨

π Invitation to Play: Our Story Trolley π
This little station has created much more of an invitation to play than we ever expected!
We noticed that some of our younger children werenβt showing much interest in books independently. They enjoyed listening during adult-led story times, but rarely chose to explore books on their own. We wanted to find a way to spark their curiosity and encourage a love of reading through play.
So, we introduced our Story Trolley β a selection of carefully chosen books accompanied by themed props that we change each week to match the stories. The props help bring the books to life, encouraging children to make connections, engage their imaginations, and explore stories in a hands-on way.
The results have been wonderful! The children are now regularly choosing to visit the trolley, sitting together to look through books, talk about the pictures, and interact with the props. Itβs been lovely to see their confidence and enthusiasm for independent reading grow.
By creating an inviting, interactive reading space, weβre helping to foster early literacy skills, language development, imagination, and a lifelong love of books. πβ¨
We canβt wait to see where our next story adventure takes us!

πͺ· Child Safety Week at Little Lotus πͺ·
Keeping children safe is one of the most important things we do, both at nursery and at home. This week we have been focusing on ways to help keep our little ones healthy, happy and safe through fun, engaging activities and discussions.
π Choking Prevention
Teaching children safe eating habits, exploring appropriate food sizes and learning the importance of sitting while eating.
π¦ Road Safety
Practising how to stop, look, listen and think before crossing the road, helping children develop safe habits from an early age.
π¦ Water Safety
Learning about staying safe around water, why we should always have an adult nearby and how to enjoy water play safely.
π¦· Teeth Health
Exploring healthy foods, practising good brushing techniques and learning how to keep our smiles bright and healthy.
π‘ General Safety
Talking about safe choices, trusted adults and how to look after ourselves and our friends.
At Little Lotus, we believe that building safety awareness from a young age helps children develop confidence, independence and lifelong healthy habits.
