Don’t worry if you haven’t got it all figured out

I used to think everyone did

And the older I get the more I realise that’s not true

At one point I thought I had it all figured out

Then decided to move to the other side of the world

We’re all moving at different speeds

Towards different goals

And most of us are just figuring it out as we go

From 25m to 2.5km open water in a few months. Here’s exactly what I did 👇

I signed up to a half Ironman in February and couldn’t swim more than 25m.

Last week I swam 2.5km continuous in open water.

1) Join a local triathlon club

This was the single best thing I did.

Membership was £25 for the year and they offered 90 minute coached swim sessions for just £4 a session.

Way cheaper than 1-1 lessons and they split the lanes by ability so you’re always swimming with people at your level.

2) Commit to a minimum of 1 session per week

The best way to get better at something is to keep showing up.

I’d do the coached session on Tuesday and then go back Thursday to practice the drills again.

Repetition is everything.

3) Follow the right accounts

I started following swim focused YouTube channels and Instagram accounts and the micro learning from these was massive.

I’d spot a drill that directly addressed one of my weaknesses and go practice it in my next session. Small tweaks add up fast.

Get in open water as soon as possible

Pool swimming is great for technique but it does not prepare you for open water.

The feeling is completely different.

Start with local lakes and reservoirs and build up gradually.

Leave the sea until you’re more confident because the tides and currents are no joke.

The biggest thing I learned is that confidence in the water comes from time in the water.

There are no shortcuts but the progress you can make in a few months is genuinely surprising

12 HOUR HALF IRONMAN TRAINING WEEK WITH A FULL TIME JOB 🏊🚴🏃

This week I’ve been training with

An amazing opportunity to develop skills and techniques across each discipline

Plus it was great to meet lots of new people who are VERY skilled at this sport

Training volume was a LOT higher this week

So next week I’ll be deloading

To allow my body to recover

I’m loving this process

I’ve learned something new every week

LFG 💪🏽

My thoughts after pretending to be a professional triathlete with 🏊🚴🏃👇

Honestly 4 months ago I couldn’t even swim 25m without stopping

Now I can swim 100x that distance

I actually find a 2.5km swim ENJOYABLE now

Crazy

I signed up to a half Ironman this year because I wanted to take on a new challenge

Learning 2 new disciplines has been humbling

But I’ve genuinely loved every second

And I’ve met some incredible people so far

I’m a big advocate for trying new things

Lifting weights, CrossFit and Hyrox still make up parts of my training

And I love building a body that can do it all

I was pretty bad at sports when I was younger

So part of me feels like I’m making up for lost time

Do it whilst you can

Because one day you may not be able to

Big up to .coops and the team for making me feel so welcome

You put together a great week and I learned SO MUCH

What happens at an RAF Triathlon Training Camp (PART 2)? 🏊 🚴 🏃

Day 3 involved a cheeky track session with focus on threshold pacings

Followed by more swimming with a focus on sighting & drafting drills in prep for our open water swim

Day 4 included a long run, another swim and a STUNNING dominoes to refuel ahead of

Day 5 which was one of my favourites

An opportunity to swim in a beautiful lake for 2 hours

With a BBQ chaser

Amazing week - thank you .coops 🤝🏼

What a blessing to be part of this team

Every runner I’ve ever coached eventually asks me the same question

“Will lifting slow me down?”

The answer is no

In fact, it’ll do the opposite

The science backing this up is overwhelming

But you can also improve your physique

Message me ‘COACHING’

8 HOUR HALF IRONMAN TRAINING WEEK WITH A FULL TIME JOB 🏊🚴🏃

Currently training for Ironman Weymouth 70.3 🇬🇧

In February I couldn’t swim more than 25m nor did I own a bike

I’ve joined a local triathlon club who do coached swim sessions on Tuesdays

I bought a bike, got it fitted and absolutely LOVE being out on it

Running is my strongest discipline and I’ve just come back from an injury

I’m SO EXCITED to finally start this training block

After recently completing a Hyrox and an ultramarathon

It’s good to finally have some structure in my training

LFG 💪🏽
