We're Going On A Book Hunt

Over the last year, students from every year group; but largely in Years 7, 8 & 9 have borrowed lots of library books to see them through lockdowns. We now need to have these returned, to help ensure that there are a wide selection of library books available for everyone to borrow.

I know we've probably got some Year 13s who borrowed library books back in Year 7 and are too frightened to bring them back after all this time. We may even have staff who have borrowed books over the years who feel the same .

Don't worry, we're having a books amnesty. You bring the books back ... no questions asked. We will have boxes at the entrances each morning that you can drop the books into. Alternatively give them to your form tutor and I'll collect them from the classrooms each day

Many Thanks for your help Mrs Keenan

Whilst we can’t access books from the LRC why not look at North Tyneside Libraries BorrowBox for eBooks. You can choose from a wide variety of titles, then you can read on your device.

If you are in Year 7 or Year 8 we will be finding out how to do this in your next Reading lesson

Over the next couple of weeks Year 7 & Year 8 will be registering with North Tyneside Libraries to use their BorrowBox eBook service.
This simply requires them to download the BorrowBox app which is free of charge. During their Reading lesson we will be taking them through the registration process

If any parents/carers or students from other year groups would like to also register to use BorrowBox eBook service, here are the very simple instructions of how to do this.

Online surge of support for bullied book lover 01/03/2020

It’s incredibly sad think that a young person is bullied via social media just because of his love of books and passion for reading.
It’s not an activity that should be thought of as ‘strange’ or ‘geeky’. It’s the one thing that we all need to be able to proficiently do in order to help us succeed in school and life. Here at Churchill it’s something that we’re working hard at ensuring it’s a positive activity and our young people understand the importance of getting their reading age to or above their biological age.

It’s lovely to hear of the positivity that has quickly resulted from this story.
Continue doing what you enjoy Callum

Online surge of support for bullied book lover Callum Manning, 13, was bullied in a group chat for posting reviews of books he loved on Instagram.
