After 40 years of leading Newcastle Sendai, Sensei Ernie Payne, 5th Dan, has decided to step down as chief instructor. The club, founded by Sensei Jeff Barwick will now be headed by Sensei Grant Wheatley (4th dan), who first started training at Newcastle Sendai more than 20 years ago.
The whole club would like to thank Sensei Ernie Payne for the decades he has spent teaching karate, leading so many students to their Shodan and beyond, and for keeping the club going through thick and thin.
For everything you have done for the club and the countless students, Thank you from us all!

Our latest grant session was taught by Renshi Ray Wilkin 7 th dan ( 73 yrs ) He was one of my teachers when I was a beginner 🤓Another great role model for our adults ( and children )There were lots of interesting drills. He also stressed how good karate is for confidence, and for higher grades to slow down attacks against lower grades
so adults can practice the techniques at first. Thanks to the National Lottery Players.

Some of us attended Sensei Gary Harford's class at Kokoro Karate Club yesterday. Very good insight into Chinte for the black belts and Bassai Dai for the brown belts, a highly technical class as usual.
Many thanks to Kokoro Karate Club - Blyth & Cramlington for organizing and hosting, and to Sensei Gary Harford for an excellent class.
Today we hosted our first training & grading event for 2026.
Thank you to Sensei Garry Harford, 8th Dan for two excellent sessions. In the senior class the brown belts focused on various katas, while the dan grades worked on the kata chinte with bunkai.
The junior class worked on their grading syllabus and stance work. Everyone trained with an excellent attitude.
Congratulations to everyone who graded - results to follow.
