Newcastle High School for Girls

Newcastle High School for Girls From the first classrooms for girls in 1876 to leading the way in girls’ education today, we’ve been putting girls first for 150 years.

Newcastle High School for Girls was created from the merger of two great girls' schools - Church High School and Central Newcastle High School in Newcastle. Between them the schools bring over 250 years of experience in the education of girls. NHSG has created a vibrant learning community for girls aged from 3 to 18 making it the leading choice for every girl and parent in the North East

When Newcastle High School for Girls was founded 150 years ago, its pioneers lobbied for reforms that would allow girls to receive the same standard of education as boys. Their vision helped shape generations of young women and, a century and a half later, that commitment remains at the heart of NHSG.

Today, under the leadership of Head Amanda Hardie, NHSG continues to put girls first, creating an environment where girls thrive academically, socially and personally. It is a school where girls are encouraged to find their voice, pursue their passions and develop the confidence to navigate an ever-changing and more complex world.

We are incredibly proud of two of our talented pupils, Daisy and Savina, and our Peri Music Teacher Laura for representing NHSG during the Newcastle Cathedral Choir's week-long residency at St Paul's Cathedral at the end of the summer holidays.

Their beautiful singing and professionalism were a credit to the School, and they demonstrated exceptional talent, commitment and maturity throughout the week. What a wonderful achievement and an unforgettable experience in one of the country's most iconic settings. We are very proud of our NHSG choristers! 🎶
