Important information for Free School Meals

Changes to Free School Meals
There are some changes to the Free School Meals system from September.

Targeted Free School Meals
• Available to families receiving Universal Credit with an annual household income of less than £7,400.
Extended Free School Meals
• Available to families receiving Universal Credit with an annual household income of more than £7,400.
What do parents need to do?
We are encouraging all families to apply again over the summer. You can either:
• Apply online using the link below, or
• Collect a paper application form from the school office and return it once completed.

If your child is eligible, the Local Authority will carry out an annual check to confirm continued eligibility. If your child is not currently eligible, applications will be reviewed regularly to identify any changes in circumstances that may qualify them in the future.

Children moving into Year 3
As usual, children moving into Year 3 will no longer automatically receive Free School Meals through the Universal Infant Free School Meals Scheme (KS1).
If you think your child may be entitled to Free School Meals, please complete an application form from the school office or apply online using the link below:
If you need any help completing an application, please contact the school office and we will be happy to assist.

Screen-Free Summer Challenge:

10 Fun Ways to Unplug and Make Memories Together

Looking for ways to keep the children entertained this summer without relying on screens? Our Screen-Free Summer Challenge is packed with simple ideas to help families unplug, reconnect and create lasting memories together.

Whether you're heading outdoors, getting creative at home or discovering somewhere new, these activities encourage children to explore, learn and spend quality time with family and friends.

1. Explore Nature

Swap screen time for green time. Visit a local park, woodland, nature reserve or family-friendly walking trails and see what wildlife you can spot along the way.

2. Get Creative

Bring out the paints, pencils and craft supplies. Try a new art project, create a masterpiece together or use recycled materials to make something unique.

3. Read Together

Share a favourite story, discover a new book from the library or create a cosy reading corner at home. Reading together helps build imagination and confidence.

4. Get Active Outdoors

Jump on bikes, kick a football around, play tag in the garden or try a new outdoor game. Fresh air and exercise are a great combination.

5. Picnic Somewhere New

Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch in a different location. A local park, beach, woodland or even your own garden can become an adventure.

6. Visit and Discover

Become a tourist for the day. Explore a local museum, historic building, gallery or attraction and learn something new together. You may even be able to save money on admission through the Great British Summer Savings scheme.

7. Splash Around

Make the most of warm weather with a trip to the beach, a swimming pool, a splash park or a family-friendly lake.

8. Cook Together

Choose a recipe and get everyone involved. From baking cakes to preparing dinner, cooking together is a fun way to learn new skills.

9. Camp Out at Home

Pitch a tent in the garden, tell stories, enjoy some snacks and see how many stars you can spot after dark.

10. Do Something Kind

Help a neighbour, organise a litter pick, donate unwanted toys or support a local community project. Small acts of kindness can make a big difference.

Why Screen-Free Time Matters

Technology is an important part of modern life, but balancing screen use with real-world experiences can support children's development and wellbeing.

• Benefits of Reducing Screen Time

• Encourages creativity, imagination and problem-solving.

• Promotes physical activity and outdoor play.

• Supports social skills through face-to-face interaction.

• Helps improve focus, concentration and learning.

• Encourages healthier sleep habits.

• Builds confidence and independence.

• Creates more opportunities for family connection and shared experiences.

Top Tip

Don't worry about cutting out screens completely. Instead, focus on creating moments throughout the week where the whole family can enjoy activities together.

Small changes can lead to big memories.
