Fra og med 2. april 2025 blir norske borgere omfattet av det britiske systemet for å søke om en digital innreisetillatelse (ETA) til Storbritannia.
Denne endringen gjelder reisende fra de fleste europeiske land, ikke bare reisende fra Norge.
Må søke før avreise
- ETA, eller Electronic Travel Authorisation, er ikke det samme som et visum. Dersom man ikke får godkjent ETA, må man søke om visum.

Endringen trer i kraft 2. april. Det betyr at alle norske borgere må søke før innreise dersom de skal ankomme Storbritannia fra og med 2. april 2025. Søknaden gjøres digitalt, enten på nettsidene til Home Office eller gjennom en app. Per i dag koster det £10 per søknad (gebyret vil øke til £16 neste uke) Vær oppmerksom på at det finnes falske nettsider som utgir seg for å være fra britiske myndigheter.
Det er unntak fra ETA for personer som allerede har gyldig opphold i Storbritannia og som kan dokumentere denne.

Effective April 2nd, Norwegian citizens will be included in the British system for applying for a digital Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to the United Kingdom.
This change applies to travelers from most European countries, not just travelers from Norway.
𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲
An ETA, or Electronic Travel Authorisation, is not the same as a visa. If the ETA is not approved, you must apply for a visa.
The change itself takes effect on April 2nd 2025, and you must apply prior to departure.
The application is done online through an app or on the Home Office website. The cost of an ETA is currently £10 (the fee will increase to £16 later this month).
Please beware of fake websites pretending to be the Home Office.
There are exceptions for persons who already have valid residence in the United Kingdom, and can document this.
Questions can be directed to the British Home Office or the British Embassy in Oslo.

The Multilingual Library, now in new premises in Gateshead, have contacted me to say that they stock a large number of Norwegian books. Some have been received directly from publishers. The library is open Monday to Saturday 11am to 6pm and is within walking distance from the Metro station. Membership is only £5 per calendar year.
