Tynemouth Nursery at Battle Hill

What a busy week we've had ladybirds and Caterpillars .We explored out in the garden with a range of different activities chalks and a sensory tuff tray with shaving foam and animals .We've enjoyed this lovely weather too .
We explored a tuff tray this week all about emotions .We asked caterpillars and Ladybirds how they were feeling this week so we created a very own emotion tuff tray with cornflakes and the colour monsters .Ladybird and caterpillar children loved scooping and pouring into the different coloured stacking boxes .

We have explored some gloop this week exploring a different range of textures throughout .The children loved the feeling of the gloop and putting the animals in to make different animal patterns .We made some lovely paintings too this week

This week, the children in Dragonflies and Butterflies have had a busy week! ✨

At the start of the week, the children created their own volcanoes using tissue paper and paper cups. The children used glue sticks and placed the tissue paper in different ways and directions; some were placed landscape or scrunched up. The children then let their volcanoes dry, getting ready for tomorrow's fun.

Then the children had the opportunity to make their volcanoes erupt! The children used vinegar and bicarbonate soda to make the lava come out of the volcano. The tray was dinosuar-themed with multiple volcanoes around for the children to erupt! 🌋 The children used pipettes to collect the vinegar to create an explosion. The children spoke about volcanoes and lava, saying things such as "lava is hot" or playing the floor is lava with the dinosaurs.

Next, the children explored a tuft of pasta and playdough to create people and animals. The children used their imagination to create different animals or people, using the pasta and playdough to bring their ideas to life.

At the end of the week, the children had the opportunity to bring the 'Gruffalo' story to life! The children had the chance to recreate the Gruffalo story and take the different animals through the forest. The children hid the owls in the trees and the snake in a logpile house and used their memory skills to recall the whole story. Then the children got the chance to make 'Gruffalo crumble'. The children had different ingredients linking to the Gruffalo, such as purple pasta for the prickles all over his back and black sauce for his black tongue. The children used their senses to explore the tray, making different food and drink for the mouse in the story to eat. This helped the children learn independence too, such as twisting lids and adding amounts with spoons, helping to develop their fine motor skills and life skills. The children had the chance to explore different types of packaging such as screwing lids or adding different seasoning to meals and figuring out how to use the lid. This helped the children learn independence and skills to help them learn to cook in the future.

Yesterday we had a visit from Zoo lab what a fantastic time we had getting to see all the animals .Well done to Ladybird children and Caterpillar children holding the animals you were very brave and we are so proud of you all .

The children really enjoyed getting to see all the animals and find out some more information about them.and where they live. We got to see a range of different animals like a Snake a snail and a spider we got to see where it lives and have a look at it in the box .

Yesterday, Butterflies and Dragonflies had an incredibly thrilling surprise visit from Zoo Labs!

During an interactive session, the children had the opportunity to learn fascinating facts about various animals and engage with each creature. Among the animals and creatures they encountered were a Cockroach, a millipede with three hundred legs, a giant African land snail, a snake, gerbil, and a tarantula.

The children were filled with excitement meeting these animals and had many questions, such as "What is that?" and "Why is the snail slimy?" They displayed courage by interacting with each animal, with some even holding them! Staff members also participated in the fun, eagerly meeting the giant corn snake and holding it.

This session was not only enjoyable but also educational, helping the children expand their knowledge and awareness of animals and creatures worldwide. Additionally, they discovered where these animals reside, whether in rainforests or other regions across the globe.

A big well done to Butterflies and Dragonflies for their bravery and enthusiasm! ☺️

🐻We're going on a bear hunt🐻

Butterflies and Dragonflies have had a busy and fun-filled morning engaging in a range of bear hunt themed activities. The children all sat to read the "We're going on a bear hunt" story, joining in with repeated phrases throughout.
Children then explored a wide range of textures by getting stuck into a bear hunt theme tuft tray. Children had an ooblek river, thick playdough mud, green rice grass, an oat forest, and a crunchy rice crispies snowstorm. Children also had a cave with a bear hiding within. Children had lots of fun feeling the different textures in the tray and were similarly encouraged by staff to use a range of words to describe these textures to further develop their vocabulary.
Children used a range of materials such as paint, tissue paper, sugar paper, and crayons to make a collage bear face to represent the bear from the story. Children developed their fine motor skills by using paint brushes and scissors to cut the paper, making their crafty collages throughout.
Children spoke about the book throughout the day and were even seen acting out the story, repeating phrases used throughout.

We have had a very busy week in ladybirds and caterpillars! We have spent lots of our time outside exploring and climbing.

We have also celebrated national shark awareness day! We explored a tray with blue coloured rice and some sharks where the children moved the sharks around in the rice to make a rustling sound

We have had tapi toes this afternoon and the children have been dancing and twirling!

💜🎓 GRADUATION CLASS OF 2026 🎓💜

On Monday, we had our Dragonflies graduation !
It has been a pleasure watching each and every one of our graduates grow and develop into the funny, clever and unique personalities that they have all grown to be. We have enjoyed listening to the many stories that they come out with and watching them as they create friendships and strong bonds.

From tiny tots who were learning to crawl to independent individuals standing proud and tall ! ✨

We would also like to say a massive thank you to the parents/carers for trusting us with looking after your children over the years.

Class of 2026, we are all so proud of you and we know you will flourish in your next big adventures !

Good luck and we will all miss you, from the girls at Tynemouth Nursery at Battle Hill 💕

Butterflies have had such a busy week at nursery with such amazing weather alongside.

Butterflies have engaged in a painting and crafts day to celebrate the World Cup football. The children in Butterflies explored different flags such as England and Norway in preparation for the football match which is due to take place. The children used red, white and blue paint in order to practice using their fine motor skills to paint the England or Norway flags. As part of this day, the children also created hats using these flags and got in some further practice with using their fine motor skills. The children used scissors and glue with some support from staff to cut card and stick all of the pictures and pieces together.

Children also had a numbers day and explored different numbers and practised their number skills by seeing how high they could count. The children in Butterflies engaged in a flour tuft tray with a range of different mark-making tools to have a go at writing some of their numbers. The children also managed to practise their fine motor skills throughout this activity by using brushes, sticks and shapes to draw and mark make in the tray of flour.

To end the week, Butterflies had a fun-filled day starting off with the weekly tennis session with Coach Emily. The children used their fine motor skills and gross motor skills to pick up the balls and put them into the hoops. After this, the children used their tennis rackets to guide the balls into each hoop, developing their manipulation and control throughout. In the afternoon, children had a surprise session of Tappy Toes due to the warmer weather, and they joined in with lots of dancing such as sleeping bunnies before using the ribbons and shakers to dance to music. To end the session, the children engaged with the parachute by sitting under it while staff waved it up and down.

Children have had lots of fun in the garden and have been enjoying the sun this week at nursery and have been reminded to take regular water breaks as well as applying sunscreen. Lots of discussions about sun safety and the importance of staying hydrated have been had throughout the week to make sure children are aware of this.

The Butterflies and Dragonflies are splashing their feet in the water to stay cool while enjoying the sunny weather ! ☀
