Is there a vision for change in UK early childhood education?
This is a genuine question - we've been searching through government statements for meaningful detail, particularly after this week's announcement on 'First Steps, the Plan for Change.' We've not yet found any. Please help!
We are not alone in experiencing a 'time of wilderness': here is Professor Peter Moss' recent rather mystified blog:
Whatever happened to Labour’s agenda for children?
A time-travelling IOE academic in the 2000s who awakens in October 2024 will be left shaken and speechless over the Labour government’s policy agenda for children... (read more)

A beautifully sunny Sunday in Reggio Emilia - here are children enjoying the water fountains in the piazza outside the municipal theatres. Tomorrow 400 educators from 60 begin our study week with the preschools of Reggio Emilia. In our group we have educators from England, Northern Ireland, and also friends from Hong Kong & Brazil.

Hello all! 👋
Let us introduce ourselves: We are Sightlines Initiative - the UK reference point for Reggio Children, Reggio Emilia, Italy, and are members of the Reggio Children International Network.
We develop and demonstrate reflective and creative practice in UK early childhood education through action research projects and professional development activity.
We believe children are born innately sociable, curious, competent and creative, and that the role of early years education is to nurture, value and respect these qualities, and create engaging and meaningful learning environments for children.
Please do check out our website/socials to find out more. And if you think that what we do sounds interesting, please check out our 2024 study visits to Sweden and Reggio - spaces are available NOW!
Thanks ❤️

Join UK and International colleagues in a week of immersion finding out about the preschools of Reggio Emilia, in the city itself.
There are still some spaces available - but the last few are being rapidly taken, so don't delay.

The preschools of Reggio Emilia have for more than a half-century been an international beacon for educators seeking to form enlightened education.
The vision and determination of a local community to create places of warm convivial learning for their children, enriched by a tenacious, researchful vision for education is a lasting and powerful contradiction to the idea of sitting children in an environment of passive instruction.
These are times of possibility. Amidst calls and demands to ‘return to normal’ there are many who have lost patience with the ‘old normal’ or have seen that other ways of living and learning are indeed preferable. Multitudes of educators, head teachers, parents and advocates are striving to protect and develop possibilities for educational experiences with children’s rights, wellbeing and proclivities for natural enquiry at the heart. Internationally we can see the development of education with principles informed by the exuberant work of Reggio’s preschools.
