Today is Carer's rights day. Too often carers don't get the care and support they need. Help us to improve care and support for people from African and Caribbean descent by telling us your experiences of end of life care during the pandemic. If you have lost someone or are a health, social or community carer who has provided support please get in touch.

COVID 19 is still with us. We are still looking for people to share their experiences of losing someone close do them during the pandemic, or professionals who have provided care and support. Please get in touch with us if you have lost or supported someone who identifies as being from African or Caribbean descent and you feel able to share your story to support our research to improve care at end of life.

Opportunity to Get Involved

We are looking for participants to take part in the PEACE research study focused on end of life experiences of people of African and Caribbean descent, during the coronavirus pandemic. We are a team of researchers from Newcastle University and the University of Manchester who have been funded by the National Institute for Health Research Policy Research Programme.

Our study is important, because there have been many deaths amongst Black and Minority Ethnic communities during the pandemic, but we know access to good end-of-life-care is often poor. What we don’t know, is why this happens and how it can be changed. Our study addresses this gap in our understanding and aims to help improve end-of-life care for people of African and Caribbean descent.

We would like to interview relatives of people of African and Caribbean descent, who died during the pandemic (not necessarily as a direct result of COVID-19). The questions will cover their experiences and views on the care that both their relative and they (as family member/carer) received during the last year of life. All information will be anonymised and no individuals will be identified in any reports produced. The project has been approved by the Newcastle University Research Ethics Committee. A description of the study and what is involved in it for potential participants is attached.
