How to build a thick back?

Do your hinge movements.

Doesn’t specifically just have to be a conventional deadlift. Alternatives being, dumbbell RDL, barbell RDL or a weighted lower back extension.

Moving heavy weight with correct form, technique and time under tension will 100% increase muscle mass.

ALWAYS ensure technique over weight, never go into a set with heavy weight and poor technique.

It’s one thing being able to lift a heavy weight but what’s the point in being able to lift it if you can’t control it?

Control is vastly underestimated when lifting a heavy weight however controlling the weight allows you to stay under tension for a longer period of time and if that exercise isn’t a squat, bench or deadlift then there’s no reason for you not to have control.

Implementing a 3s eccentric, 2s concentric or even a pause before pressing or lifting all increases the time your muscle is under tension. The same would apply for both isolation and strength based movements like this one here.
