We enjoyed building the “altar de muertos” at Chucho's yesterday ahead of el Día de los Mu***os next week 💀🇲🇽🌺

Day of The Dead event in Newcastle offers plenty food for thought Chucho's The Real Mexican Food taco restaurant invites people to explore the culture of the dead - which is mourned here but celebrated in Mexico

What is the Day of the Dead? On 1st and 2nd November every year families in Mexico celebrate loved ones who have passed. They create an “altar de muertos” with flowers, candles, photos, trinkets and sugar skulls. People also like to get dressed up and paint their faces.

It’s a holiday full of colour and positive memories, rather than being morbid or too sad. On this day people eat a traditional sweet bread called “pan de muerto” served with rich hot chocolate. It’s a great opportunity for families to get together and have fun, and also a lovely way to introduce children to their ancestors.

In the week leading up to “El Día de los Mu***os” we will have an “altar de muertos” in Chucho's - please come and have a look.

Classes start again next week - there’s intermediate & advanced conversation online, at private lessons at Chucho’s, little ones at and post-beginners at Fawdon Library - can’t wait to see you all! 🇪🇸🇲🇽

The sun was shining this morning in Seaburn and we all had a blast with football coach Rubén from Madrid. The students were completely immersed in Spanish and had to follow instructions, work as a team, and show off their ball skills of course 😅🇪🇸⚽️
